Women are still often described physically by the media in more detail than men are, right down to what they're wearing and the style of their hair and whether it has highlights. FYI, I just received a dozen list posts -- for the first time in the weeks since I reported not getting any posts at all. Who fixed what? I may never know. Ghosts in the machine, somewhere! Personally, I was disappointed. I wish she'd have asked Dave Blackburn to produce it. It might just be my sound system (though so much sounds brilliant on it), but the overall sound was so thin and toppy it hurt my ears. Oh for some mid range and some warmth in the sound There are some great ideas, but horribly over produced for my money. However, the cause is a good one and is worth it just for that. H*ere are 2 mondegreens though. In "Racin' In the Street", I thought they were pining for a parcel of land on the east coast. I thought he said, >> Some guys give up livin' >> >> dyin' for a little piece back East >> Now I know he was saying, >> Some guys give up livin'>> >>dyin' little by little, piece by piece. >> In "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)", I thought Springsteen said: >>All the love I'm ever gonna need is a Sausalito girl's tongue>> Now I know he was really saying, >>All the love I'm ever gonna need is saucy, little girl's tongue>> The videos in the boxed set were very interesting to me. And I'll never look at a 99 cent, spiral-ring, composition book the same. I wish Rose lived closer so I could show her all of this stuff. One last thing. In the liner notes, Springsteen said in part, >I'd been out of the recording scene for three years; I was in my mid-twenties and already trying to prove I wasn't a "flash in the pan," a "one-hit-wonder," a creation of the record company star-making machinery.> Jim L'Hommedieu ps, BestBuy had / has it on sale. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 2010 16:42:22 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Re: "'THE PROMISE: THE DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN STORY'" boxed set, njc Very cool, Jim - still not in my clutches yet but I'll be driving by my 2 fave record stores tomorrow with a fistful of dollars. I used to hit BestBuy but then they moved the store to the MAJOR sprawl part of town, plus I'd rather help out the indies even if it means I gotta pay more. Bob NP: Broken Social Scene, "Ungrateful Little Father" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Nov 2010 01:19:30 -0500 From: Vince Subject: the Keith Richards book this is not 'njc' for a reason this is also not a reversal of my decision to not post here for the reasons that I gave earlier, they are still valid, they still stand, but in the few discussions I've seen here (I didn't say that I wouldn't read) I feel that somethings major are being missed in the book discussion Keith explains his love of music, love of guitar, and what he has accomplished, in several extended discussions and repeated additional shorter commentary on open tunings - which I have read in the JMDL is a great matter of concern to playing Joni's music - I am not a guitarist but I believe that any serious guitarist would pour over Keith's book for the detailed explanations he gives on open tunings and resultant chords and music, his book reads like a masters class on guitar playing, and there is much more of great interest to the serious guitarist - masters class instruction all the way that is the purpose of this post but as long as I am here... also, Keith makes repeated literary, cultural, and Biblical references which only can come from someone who reads extensively, is seriously involved in the arts of all kinds, and knows the Bible (which he writes, he reads often) - - anyone with an interest in the arts and culture and literature will be interested in his oft hand but apt references to things that can only come from someone who knows of what they speak. I'd love a conversation with him on dance, on classical music, on painting, on literature - he is no dilettante, he is much much more of a person of all letters than remotely suggested. and on a nonKeith subject, let me give you my own recipe for the best, healthiest cranberry relish ever: 12 ounces of fresh or frozen cranberries put in one cup of boiling water add 5-6 packages of stevia to taste (not sugar! a natural sweetener found in any health store) add two-four mandarin oranges (peeled, add the slices) add 5-6 strawberries, perhaps a few peach slices sometimes I toss in a few tablespoons of my all natural non sweetened applesauce continue boiling for about 5 minutes, until the cranberries have popped cool on the counter in a glass container refrigerate for 24 hours (no less) no replies needed, except off-list ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2010 #350 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
