Been away from the list for a while but I did manage to download them and listen to them in early Nov. You're great at putting them together and the cartoons are just a hoot. And for some reason, every time I listen to the covers, my house is clean when I get to the last song. Thanks bud. Jim PS. As for the cartoon characters' names, I think the guy should be named Jon aka "Boney" Mitchell - --- On Mon, 11/1/10, Bob Muller wrote: > From: Bob Muller > Subject: Re: Joni Covers, Volume 130 - Just Say No(vember) > To: "JMDL" > Date: Monday, November 1, 2010, 7:46 PM > Seems like there's something wrong > with the download link...try this: > > https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=dklvUGhVQXBreEJjR0E9PQ > > > or this: > > http://tinyurl.com/2fbr5av > > Sorry for the inconvenience, having all kinds of technical > issues tonight. > > Bob ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2010 18:09:54 +0000 From: Anita G Subject: Re: Mike Leigh NJC The first piece I saw of Mike Leigh's was the infamous 'Abigail's Party' which I think was shown as a Play for Today in the early 80's over here, followed by what is my all time favourite Mike Leigh piece 'Nuts in May.' Both starred the wonderful Alison Steadman in the lead female roles. Vera Drake I found very dark, (with Imelda Staunton being very strong as the lead) but I could take it or leave it as a story. 'Secrets and Lies' was a brilliant story and worked on all levels for me, but I wasn't that taken with 'Happy Go Lucky'. It didn't seem to me to be about anything in particular, not even about the way in which we view and interprete our experiences (which my brother said it was about for him). However, all these references to Mike Leigh has made me realise what a fantastic director he is for the getting great parts for women and played by great actresses. Brenda Blethyn, Imelda Staunton, Alison Steadman - the list goes on and on. At least Mike Leigh's work leads to great performances, interesting characters and lots of discussion, Anita On 18 November 2010 13:08, wrote: > > Mike Leigh is one of my favorite directors. > My intro to his work was "Life Is Sweet" which I thought was wonderful. Joni Mitchell - - the artist who has been there and done that, just when you get there yourself and find you really do know! And, of course, Patti was the JMDL Queen of the Joni lyric for every occasion. I often refer to my inner Patti. And you're right to ask where is she? As for the 'Raj Quartet' and studying war 'no more', there will be hundreds of additional Joni lyrics that I am willing to bet will arise unbidden from your consciousness as you get theraped and read more great books. You're just in touch with your Inner Patti and channeling Joni's poetry! Following on from the Joni and feminism thread recently, I couldn't help noticing the references to Joni's hair and bone structure in my brother Mike's old programme from '68. It just wouldn't happen if the artist had been Bob Dylan. What would they have said about Dylan's hair and bone structure? " The 25 year old with shoulder length, curly brown hair and slightly round face has now written over 60 songs. He paints in his backyard and may even have a future in art." I couldn't see it happening to a bloke at that time. Well, at least some times have changed!
