And I was growing up right next door to Hollywood! Had to wear the hat and gloves to church and my mom still makes roast beef on Sundays. A lot of the greater L.A. area in the early 20th century was settled mostly by people from Iowa and the middle west (prairie), During the 30s and 40s a lot of others came here from Oklahoma. So although we are in one way Hollywood Bablylon, there is still a underlying conservatism that remains. One being that our restaurants and bars close nightly much too soon and way earlier than those in the other big U.S. cities. Kakki, also recalling that the U.S. was once one of the colonies! Catherine wrote: Joni probably grew up in the days when women and girls wore hats and glove to church every Sunday and had roast beef for Sunday dinner. Everything was prim and proper. I remember those days but not with any particular fondness. I don't even know if things were all that different in the US back then, if you took the Queen out of the equation but, to a small-town girl from the Prairies, it must have been very exotic and exciting. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2010 22:07:07 -0400 From: "Richard Flynn" Subject: RE: Edwardsville The show was broadcast on what was then known as "educational TV" pre-PBS. I watched it on TV in 1969 when I was 14 and already a huge Joni fan. I have no idea whether video survives--I'm hoping it surfaces someday. > -----Original Message----- > From: Mark-Leon Thorne [mailto:mark-leon@iinet.net.au] > Sent: Thursday, October 14, 2010 7:16 PM > To: Richard Flynn > Cc: joni@smoe.org > Subject: Re: Edwardsville > > Hi Richard. > > I noticed that you only sent this message to me but I think you meant > to send it to the whole list so, I am replying to the list now. > > I didn't know there was video footage of this concert.
