My track record on comments to things that I reply to is the same. which reveals that the problem is mine... I've gone off on a totally different track than everyone else here, its me, not you, so I'm not upset or hurt or any of that, just knowing that I've gone a different route. I can definitely relate to your sense of shouting to an empty room. My excitement level for new music seems to be MUCH higher than the vast majority of people here who are content to keep playing the same records they enjoyed 35-40 years ago. Hey, nothing wrong with that, and I love that stuff too. Even more extreme, you have a passion for modern POP music, which I don't care for. I listened to a pop station (I won't tell you the exact circumstances, but the pleasure of the experience definitely outweighed being subjected to top 40 radio) a couple months ago for about 3-4 hours and it was SO bad I was actually laughing out loud at it. Given that these JMDL folks don't respond much to new music IN THEIR OWN GENRE, were you REALLY expecting responses on your Eminem/Jay-Z/BoB post? I read it, I'm glad you enjoyed the show, but I didn't have anything to add. On the other hand, thanks to you I have "The Eminem Show" in my library and I really dig it. The guy is one of the master wordsmiths of our times, no doubt. Anyway, I'm rambling. Just think, it could be worse - you could invest LOTS of hours and LOTS of dollars so that once (or twice) a month you could share a collection of Joni-penned songs performed by others to a giant silence. I do that every month, but the difference is, I expect NOTHING. In fact, with every post I send, I expect exactly NO response. I assume I'll hear crickets. So when it's the case (which is most times), I'm not frustrated or disappointed, and if someone does chime in with something - when I see evidence that something I said connected with somebody...well, it's a very pleasant surprise. So - go if you feel you must, but like a youth pastor told me when I was 17 and he was trying to persuade me to accompany the church youth choir on a tour to the North Carolina mountains - "everyone has something to offer". In fact, there are a whole lot of posts that I "was gonna" respond to, but don't get around to for various reasons. I felt your enthusiasm in that post and that counts for a lot. It's also very palpable and real to me, because my son Matt and I very recently saw Paul McCartney and what you describe of the excitement of the crowd was exactly how we felt when we saw Paul. It's fantastic to be in a crowd of people who are all abuzz with excitement at being there for the same purpose: to listen to the music of someone they love, especially after a long time of having to do without. And when it's the hometown crowd... bonus. Hence, the ROAR when he walks on stage. I even started wondering how old Em was, thinking he has to be around 40, and sure enough, according to Wikipedia, he's 38, I think, which makes him mature. Not as mature as some of us, granted, but mature enough to have a different perspective on things, older and wiser, perhaps, or older and more cynical for that matter, but changed. Likewise, I'm sure many of his fans who would have been in their teens and 20s when he first appeared on scene are now grown up. And I AM gonna listen to his new CD because I've heard from several different sources that it's his best ever. I actually do like his stuff. Not the way I like Joni, of course, but well enough. Hi Sue,I haven't seen the songbook yet, but I'm curious - what is the weird E tuning?A while back, I loaded my own transcription to the site for I Had a King. I used the double dad tuning: DADDAD (but capo'd up). This seems to work better for me than the DADEAD tuning - the shapes are easier to play, and it's easy to just glide your thumb over the strings. But I can't see playing the Midway in any other tuning. Thanks,Mia **********************************************I've been trying to work through this book (which was leant to me by dearfriend Walt Breen). I'm up to Blue and have only found two song tunings Igrossly disagree with ... I Had A King and That Song About the Midway ...which coincidentally are in the same tuning DADEAD ... the author has them ina weird E tuning ... anyone else have issues with this? Thanks, Sue ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Sep 2010 20:10:15 -0600 From: Les Irvin Subject: Joni songbooks... Hi Folks - The purchase of the books has been made. I should have them in about a week, and back to you within another week. Due to the overwhelming demand - requests came in at about 3 times the number of books I have - and a recalculation of total expenses involved (mailers, postage, gas, PayPal fees, etc) I've had to alter the pricing a bit. I apologize if this seems like a bait and switch, it wasn't intended to be so. Anyway, here's the deal: - - First book is $8, each additional book is $6. Postage to a US address is included in this price. - - Order limited to 2 Hejira books, 2 Hissing books. - - If you live outside the USA, you need to add $8 for shipping (or $6 if you are in Canada). In extreme cases I may have to hit you up for more. (All moneys are quoted in USD) A few days ago, a single Hejira book sold on eBay for $17.50 plus $3 shipping (to the US) so it's still a very, very good deal. HOW TO ORDER: I prefer payment through the donation link on the website. There, one can use a PayPal account, or any major credit card. The link is here: http://jonimitchell.com/donate.cfm (while there, feel free to donate too, if you wish :-) After you've made the payment, please email me your order AND your shipping address and as soon as I get the books, I'll ship them out to you. On Thursday sometime, if there are any books left, I'll send a message out to the Facebook page. So, time is of the essence to get your order in. Thanks for your understanding on the inflated prices, I hope you'll agree it's still a killer deal.
