We can't keep pulling Joni's words apart and conduct our conversations through this means...Rather lets go with Joni's spirit and fly on....! Gee man, Joni's music is part of the cosmos now, but her spirit is expanding and we can't stay confined to some past constructs, meaning her published songs...Yea: they will be illuminating forever as we meditate on them, surely, but Joni would want us to proceed with thoughts....I'm sure this is true? Joni, where are you?! Well, certainly your mind is still pulsating and pumping new ideas (someone called ideas 'noens' or something like that - just thought about it) out . Since Joni isn't ever speaking up or declaring her presence, let's try and talk for her...the way we understand her...from our private way of relating intuitively to her, inside,...let's not fix her as if she is words written just on the outside of a stone! there's the light from all the stars shining down, and the alchemical secrets inside...the words are timeless but time has proceeded so let's celebrate ongoing conscioussness. Why don't we rather speakj about the words and then fantasize about how joni's thoughts have developed as from that point of writing, in the past somewhere...we could imagine where she might be at now. Why not? Geepers, she wrote woodstock, and in that time and creation move....they move along....let's walk beside her! Hi Ingrid I welcome your enthusiasm and energy for what you see as change, but I think what you seem to want from JMDL is already here, and, you know, there may be more! One of the great gifts for me as part part of JMDL has been re-visiting old published songs from my youth that I feel I know inside out, only to find new insights and understandings from folk who share their perspectives on the list. In that way, the 'ongoing consciousness' you describe so eloquently has always been part of what has always been here on JMDL. 'Alchemical secrets' have been shared as has the magical synchronicity so many have had in relation to Joni's songs and events in their lives. There have been lots of discussions about what might have been going on for Joni in her life when she wrote all kinds of songs and we have not been immune from fantasy and gossip, too! All human life is here. For the years I have been part of JMDL, putting in a lot sometimes and very little at others, I feel I have walked alongside so many wonderful people brought together, changed and having grown through hearing Joni' music which, even though some songs are over 40 years old, also continue to expand and grow. It doesn't matter to me that Joni doesn't declare her presence, contribute or say much these days. For me, it maintains the mystique and the possibility of making our own individual minds up about her music. It also helps maintain discussion. You are right in that her words are timeless andI guess what I'm trying to say is, from where I sit, that what you want, ongoing consciousness, is already here. I have walked beside Joni's music for over 40 years and I am blessed to still be on the path. Although I mostly lurk, I still read when I have time, treasure it, and the wonderful people I've met "here", and in person. I've learned so much. Not to mention that through this list in one way or another, I was able to meet Joni in person on 3 occasions. I agree, more happens when Joni is "doing something". I hate to believe that has ended with her illness. Also, I can't imagine this list giving in to the fb monster, which has it's place, but at least in it's present form, cannot possibly replace this special one. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 2010 09:35:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Bob Muller Subject: David Gizara's Joni Mitchell Summer Solstice radio show 2010 Pt 1 Howdy gang, David Gizara, as some of you may recall, does a wonderful Joni jazz summer solstice radio show each year on Eugene, OR's NPR affilliate KLCC. This year's show is really great - lots of fresh, challenging material, a lot of things you won't hear on my compilations. I was happy to be a part of helping David put it together. And he's been kind enough to share it with us for the benefit of the folks who couldn't catch it when it was broadcast. If the music touches you, it infects the way you see the world...that is perhaps a consequence of the music, that it changes you and the the world proceeds along a path as influenced by Joni. Are you keeping wondering where she was at when she wrote the music? ...I am sure that Joni isn't quite there any longer: if her music does touch one, surely it changes one, and then you can become a topic of interest: your thoughts on things....if there was some persuasion in her music, maybe it set some dreams in motion? joni's still walking alongside a child of god, probably herself,....she's not keeping turning back ...her music can keep reminding us of her essence, but things do proceed with time..not receed, but proceed... Facebook is great for sharing photos, videos and snippets, but I think there's nothing compared to this list for getting to know people better (inasmuch as that's possible without meeting people - but then again, like you, I have met quite a few in person), and for getting into discussions in greater depth. Sometimes the discussions are about Joni but, for those of us not on Joni-only, often they are about all sorts of different things. This list does get quiet from time to time, for various reasons, but then perks up again. We may just be going through one of those quiet periods, which isn't surprising, since a lot of people have probably been on vacation and so on. ________________________________ From: Phyliss Ward To: joni@smoe.org Sent: Sun, August 29, 2010 8:35:17 AM Subject: Still reading after all these years Also, I can't imagine this list giving in to the fb monster, which has it's place, but at least in it's present form, cannot possibly replace this special one. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 2010 19:17:40 +0200 From: "ingrid lochrenberg" Subject: Oh! Sorry, I'm late to this party. I haven't been keeping up with my lurking duties. I just started working again after a long unemployment. I'd forgotten what it felt like to be busy. My understanding of the Sexes is that they're derived from the name Saxon. So, they're properly called West Saxons, South Saxons, etc. I think. My knowledge of early English history is probably better than that of most Americans, but certainly not flawless.
