Kakki is a big Jimmy Webb fan. I saw Jimmy with Glen Campbell and it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Have been listening a lot to Safaris to the Heart a lot lately. I have a review coming up, but have to say it gets better and better all the time. Jerry On Sat, Jul 24, 2010 at 7:30 AM, Paul Castle wrote: > Really love Jimmy Webb's new recording of > 'P.F. My favorite movie of the year. And the Joni connection is not at all incidental, but a very important part of the movie, one you will all appreciate. Go see it. I preordered this as soon as I saw it at Amazon. *Ten Easy Pieces* is one of my favorite recordings, so I was very eager to hear these new interpretations of some of the same songs. I didn't think anything could be better than Jimmy's version of "Galveston" (from *Ten), *but his duet with Lucinda Williams on this new one comes close. I just wish it was longer! Billy Joel, not my favorite singer, sounds better than I expected--ha!--on "Wichita Lineman"--but I still prefer Jimmy's previous version (w/Michael McDonald singing harmonies). I had heard of the songwriter P.F. Sloan, but not of the song--I think Jimmy and Jackson's vocals are stunning. And to hear Glen Campbell with a now much-lived-in, almost world-weary voice sing "Phoenix" makes it all the richer. There are other gems on the album, but these are the ones that immediately stand out for me. I highly recommend both recordings--not only for the differences in arrangements, but to hear the nuances in Jimmy's vocals--something he mentions in his great liner notes and commentary on the songs and the production. (Don't miss the story about J.D. Souther--who, btw, I LOVED on *Thirtysomething*!) T On Sat, Jul 24, 2010 at 8:35 AM, gene wrote: > Just found out that there was really a singer/songwriter P.F. I could talk to you for hours about him, got everything he ever did. When Kakki and I met up with Joni a few years back, just after 9/11, I mentioned to Joni that the world would be a better place if Fred was still alive.... there was a discussion about today's audience not knowing, but I think she agreed with us!! There is a great recording of Fred and Joni @ a save the whales benefit somewhere on the list, in San Franciso. bestStephen in Toronto - -----owner-joni@smoe.org wrote: ----- To: Jim Kauffman , joni@smoe.org From: Catherine McKay Sent by: owner-joni@smoe.org Date: 07/24/2010 08:03PM Subject: Re: Extremely Obscure Joni Mention I just bought a Fred Neil CD today and guess what song is on it?
