Not only that you shared this conversation with us but that you actually got Joni to discuss it. This explanation clears it up immensely for me. I am finally beginning to understand this song now. Could the comma be in the wrong place? Could it actually be, "Your notches liberation, doll"? In other words, the glasses, being her notches, could be the very thing thing that she feels liberated about. Just a thought. Jim, I love the idea that there could be a connection to other songs too. It wouldn't be the first time Joni has connected songs by a character. I'm also interested in what Joni was thinking at this time too. Many of the songs on THOSL was written during her time on the Rolling Thunder tour. I tend to place DITS with Shades of Scarlett Conquering which we have discussed before being about Ronnie Blake - the singer/actress who was in the Robert Altman film, Nashville. I wonder what the connection was with those people who were in Joni's life at that time. If it's not about Sam Shepherd, who? Mark in Sydney PS Nice to see you out of lurkdom, Hell. Hope you're keeping warm. ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2010 #201 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
