Errr, off the top of my head I'd say football (soccer), beer, beaches, great food, good friends, clean mountain air, the salty Mediterranean sea, smiles on childrens faces, film noir, pine and eucalyptus forests... get my point? mike in bcn np - Chick Corea - Children's Song number 1 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 May 2010 06:50:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Bob Muller Subject: Ruh-Roh! Bob NP: Neil Young, "Expecting To Fly" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 May 2010 09:34:32 -0600 From: Leah Welborn Subject: Rufus, moms, etc. (vljc) Morning Lovelies, Jerry, you crack my ass up (get it?) with some of your comments. Rufus is fascinating to me, though I don't know much of his music. Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk is one of my favorite songs. Who has seen the marvelous documentary about him and the opera he wrote? I saw it on TV (Bravo? Logo? can't remember). He strikes me as one of those musical geniuses who would be very difficult to be around sometimes (a la La Mitchell). I can't look at Rufus's man without thinking of Freddie Mercury. That is a long suffering hunk of man, seems to me. I remember in that marvelous Joni interview with Joni (the one with the Dylan bombshell) that she dropped Rufus's name in a list of others, rather dismissively, if memory serves. Catherine! Thank you for your comments about your own mom (and your daughter's would-be suitor). I find it so strange when people don't listen to music. It reminds me of a character on Buffy/Angel (yeah, that's right, I'm a huge fan. get over it). He was a demon named Lorne, and he owned a karaoke bar. He could read a person's mind and see his/her future when the person sang. He came from a world where music didn't exist. Anywho...my mom is such a cool, down to earth person, but a long time ago I had to accept that she wasn't ever gonna be into music. She reads a lot, so that's good. In one of the strangest episodes of my life, I was engaged to a man who didn't get music. He was the kinda guy who would think, "People my age seem to like U2. I'll go buy a U2 album," then he'd listen to it a couple of times and cite them as his favorite band. I remember once being on one of my ecstatic rants about the Beatles, and he was just eyeing me curiously. "You know the Beatles, right?" I say. "Sure," says he. "They do 'hey hey, we're the Monkees.' " Reader, I didn't marry him. Thanks for being so cool, folkies.
