My last cd 'Wounded and Healing' , which has always been my give away, seemed to wrap it all up for me in 2002. It's great to have all that pain behind me and to have made real movement in my inner world and in my life. It really was a journey putting it together. Having said that, I did actually manage to write one song this year after my beloved Steph retired. On 22 April, it's the fourth anniversary of our civil partnership which we had to celebrate our 25th year together as partners. The song tells where I am these days. If anyone wanted to hear it, I have it on my hard drive and I could send it. It's called 'You're home.' Love Anita When I was young and beautiful I dreamed and lived to play I struggled with the scales and notes and I practised every day I thought to write a first class tune with words that spoke for all I sat for hours with my pen in hand, just hoping the Muse would call As years went by some dreams came true and I lived to sing my lines Hot lights, cold sweat, the ringing cheers, they hooked me every time At the end of the night with my guitar packed Id drive long miles alone The thought that held me in the wee dark hours was knowing you were home Home Everythings alright cos youre at home These days My head forgets where the lyrics go and the words they lose their rhyme And I watch young singers play the clubs and I envy them their time Like them I wanted to be someone and up the charts Id climb Yet through the years you always said You silly girl, youre someone all the time My hands dont move quiet like they did across these tarnished strings I miss some notes, cant hold the chords and my voice sounds reedy thin My vocal range is diminishing and I just dont like my tone Yet still I want to wrote a simple song that says Im so glad Youre at home. My 20 (which I really don't know if it would leave time on a cd. Mr Muller, you are so following in Blackburn model of perfection) are: 1) Dawntreader (STAS). Just a sublime, ethereal guitar with a dream of a melody and vocal floating through space and time. 2) I think I understand (Clouds). Unbelievable lyric of insight. 3) The Circle Game (LOTC). Just lovely to sing along and, yet again, a lyric of such wisdom. 4) For Free (LOTC) I like Joni's piano on this and I love the sentiment. I also the alleged player a while back who was standing on the noisy corner. 5) River. (Blue) Played it all the time. The ultimate song for the depressive. 6) The Last Time I saw Richard (Blue) as 5 7) Lesson in Survival (FTR) 8) Woman of Heart and Mind. (FTR) Just grooves along so beautifully 9) Trouble Child. (C&S) Brilliant hook, floaty and then with groove. 10) Just Like This Train (C&S) As above. !11)Sweet Bird (THOSL) Weird and out there and brilliant 12) Every thing from Hejira along with (as has already been said) Pat Metheny's solo from Amelia 'Shadows and Light' version. 13) The Wolf That Lives in Lindsey (MIngus). Howling, dark, scary. Innovative, rhythmic guitar playing, (Why isn't Joni on Guitar Hero programme currently showing on BBC4?) 14) Chinese Cafe (WTRF). Joni in her middle years, moving on. 15) Shiny Toys (DED). Just love the riff 16) Good Friends (DED). Cheery and I saw her sing it in London and prompted Joni when she forgot the words. 17) Come in From The Cold (NRH). We were SO young 18) Turbulent Indigo (TI) Some real anger and edge after good cheer the years previously 19) The Magdalene Laundries. A song of healing and recognition for so many. 'Lame bulbs'. Only JOni could think of that as such brilliant description. 20) Face Lift (TTT) Only because I was thinking of getting one when one day I looked in the mirror for the crow's feet around my eyes and all I could see was the crow. This song got me over my Face Lift blues! 21) IF (Shine). Brilliant guitar, fantastic drive and great last sing along line. 'You got the fight, you got the insight' 22) The Dawntreader (Travelogue version) Just to show the wheel turned. And I couldn't possibly bring the boat in in just 20 songs. And you know there could be SO many more Anita xx ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2010 11:04:15 -0600 From: Walt Breen Subject: RE: Odds and Ends now njc Hi, all. This is very interesting, and she sounds like a journalist with a lot of integrity. - -Leah ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2010 11:51:40 -0700 From: "Watts, Lesli" Subject: RE: njc Safaris to the Heart now beautiful boy and the preservation hall jazz album well victor, i'm so behind in posts, i can't seem to force myself to type. but give me a phone.... but, i must tell you i watched your new video and love it! and your new album is so full of joy! thank you. sending good vibes back to you and hoping you'll bring your family and music to us on the west coast! gee dave and robin, you can see i haven't ordered my cd yet. hope to do so soon. and paz- my god the album/video is great, really great! love to all listers lesli Cool...I'm having a cd release party the same day in Atlanta (of course 3 hours earlier) but I'll send some good vibes your way. I will of course let the listers know immediately how to get them. We'll be doing presales from our website (recommended) and there will be tickets at the door unless we sell out ahead of time, which has happened quite a few times. I know there were some people shooting videos here and there at the JoniFest but I haven't seen any of them. Also, the version of Jungle Line on the CD is not the one from the JoniFest, as we wanted to bring in a fabulous trumpeter to play the "trumpet paths", and he wasn't available that night. Half of the CD is live from that night however. I was one of the doubters, but, after reading Sheila's email, it makes much more sense to me now. The fact that it somehow didn't sound right to me is really presumptuous of me in any case. Just because my picture of Joni's world couldn't incorporate this, doesn't mean it didn't happen - and my picture of Joni's world is obviously flawed in any case, since I knew very little about her life and was therefore most likely simply projecting my own feelings onto it. I will confess that I still can't shake that Wile E. Coyote image out of my head though. Sorry about that. Sheila's explanation makes a whole lot of sense and of course there are reasons why you wouldn't or couldn't name sources, but she has a number of them and they seem like credible ones at that. I am impressed once again by Joni's keeping quiet in public about this and at the fact that her near and dear friends protect her. There are so many cases these days of people selling information that they have (or claim to have) about public figures just to make a quick buck that it's gratifying to know that there are still people out there with a sense of honour. Thanks, Terra, for sharing that with us. ________________________________ From: T Peckham To: Bob.Muller@fluor.com; JMDL Sent: Fri, April 16, 2010 4:17:42 PM Subject: Re: a letter from Sheila Weller Hi Bob, Thanks! I agree with Muller (this time) about going forward into the jazz-influenced stuff, "The Hissing Of Summer Lawns", "Hejira", "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter", and I'll add "Mingus". There's a live album / DVD from the era of these 4 albums called "Shadows and Light". I guess this era is my favorite period and "Hissing" is the top of the top, to me. Really, I thoroughly enjoy all 5 of them. You could take a short diversion into the live CD, "Miles of Aisles" too because it has some of the same folks as "Court And Spark" but I think "People's Parties" is the only song in common between them. It's typical of Joni- when she had hit songs on the radio, "Free Man In Paris" and "Help Me", she put out a live album with NEITHER song on it. A recurring theme on the JMDL is how she shot herself in the foot with decisions like that, over and over again. She's the best anyway. But the, there are many fans who think that "Blue" is the most amazing album of all of them. Certainly Ani and Jewel and Alanis and Tori and Fiona are aware of "Blue". You'll sort it out for yourself. Jim L'Hommedieu Leah Welborn said, in part, >Fiona Apple's debut album> >I was in a restaurant in San Diego about 5 years ago, eating breakfast, watching the ocean, and the music playing was (I know now) Court and Spark.
