I have said before that I don't really have any interest in meeting Joni. I get the feeling we wouldn't get on. That's not to say that I don't appreciate her and the way she thinks. Frankly, that's why I'm here. I'm happy to admire from afar. I got to thinking though, if I ever did happen upon Ms Mitchell, what would I say to her? Her time would be limited so, it might be a good idea to have something prepared. Maybe I would be allocated three questions. If you were allowed to ask Joni three questions, what would they be? Who knows, maybe someone will read this and compile the questions to present to Joni. Of course, I realise my questions would probably change in a week but, these are my burning questions for now: 1. What is really meant by the line, "Humble makes pure"? 2. Is, For The Roses really about James Taylor? 3. Who was, Love Or Money about? Before Apu can say anything, Homer blurts out, Are you the head of all the Quickiemarts? Yes. Really? Yes. Really? Yes.....thankyou and come again. If I could ask three questions of Joni... 1) Do you still have the stuffed tiger I gave you on your birthday in 1998? 2) Are you familiar with the music of Nick Drake and what impact, if any, has he had on your own music? 3) Would you like to jam? Mark in Seattle ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2010 22:32:03 -0700 From: "Mark" Subject: Jane Goodall & Joni I just caught about 20 minutes of a Bill Moyers interview with Jane Goodall. What a beautiful, intelligent and amazing person she is! Her comments about how all species are inter-connected and about how poverty has created ecological nightmares in Africa and elsewhere made me think of Joni. I was reminded of what Joni has said in songs like 'If I Had a Heart, I'd Cry'. So much of what she said made me think 'That's exactly what Joni has been saying!' Goodall said that she gets irritated by people saying that 'we are borrowing this world from our children'. She said we have been stealing and stealing and stealing from generations to come and that there is a disconnect between the human mind and the human heart. It brought 'The Fiddle and the Drum' ballet back to me all over again in a very vivid way, especially 'If I Had a Heart, I'd Cry'. It's obvious that Jane Goodall does have a heart and she does more than cry. She said there was good news along with the bad and she talked about several species of animals that had been brought back from the brink of extinction. She also talked about the Jane Goodall institute and how she and others are working to make a difference. Shine your light, Jane.
