I should have the CDs in hand one week from now. It has been in production for the last 6 months and I have to say we are totally thrilled with how it has turned out. There are ten tracks in all, but as you know, Joni tunes can be long so it is almost 61 mins in length. Five of the tracks were carefully recorded to multi- track at SoCal JoniFest and the remainder recorded in our studio, Beat 'n Track Recording. The band comprises Robin (my wife) on lead vocals, myself on guitars, percussion and vocals, Barnaby Finch on keyboards, Dave Curtis on bass and second keyboard, Jeff Olson on drums and Britt Doehring on backing vocals and second guitar. In addition we had guest appearances by Paul Carman and Barry Cahill on saxophone, Mitch Manker on trumpet and flugelhorn and Don Reed on lap steel. The cover is based on a photo by none other than Les Ross, and the design work was wonderfully done by Jeff Holtzman and our own Jill Haas. So it is quite a JMDL collaboration, not to mention the unmistakeable sound of JMDLer applause on the live tracks! Some of the arrangements are all original and some hew fairly closely to the album versions, following the principle that you can't improve on perfection! I enthusiastically invite everyone to visit http://www.robinadler.com/ , click the flash player at the foot of each page to hear a 60 sec sample of each track, and of course I especially would like to invite you to go to the "products" page (or click on the homepage link) and purchase it. It won't be available as a download for a while so right now the CD is what's available. chief Mutt "Dave" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 12:32:02 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Re: Safaris to the Heart: The Songs of Joni Mitchell And you sir are NOT an easy sound man to please so it's GOT to be pretty awesome. Mary and I had decided that "dreadlock boy" (Jason Castro? that's his name, right?) was the love child of John Travolta and Ani DiFranco. He's cute, though. Wonder what he's doing now? >>> OK, so a lot of you know my guilty pleasure is reality TV (and those of you who didn't know it now). Last week there was a show with the wedding of two people from "The Bachelor" and Jason performed "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as the bride walked down the aisle and then performed again at the end of the show as the guests ran out of the pouring rain to the reception. It was interesting to note that there was an actual rainbow as he sang. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 14:08:47 -0700 From: "Cassy" Subject: Re: njc Great voice but at the beginning I thought he was going to do a cover of "All I Want" the guitar sounds so similar. Azeem, are you going? I hope to see you there and hear all about your charity bike ride! Paul, are you? We have never met, so if you're going, could you send me an email and we'll work out how to recognise each other! Are any other JMDLers going? I know Anita and Steph wanted to go but could not make it. I must say that a 9pm starting time on a Sunday evening, for people who need to get to work the following day and don't live on the doorstep, is not that easy! Anyway I do hope to hear from anybody else who is planning to go, and look forward to seeing you there. Just one more time the link for anybody who may be interested: http://www.greennote.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=854&Item id=6 At this time of writing, there are still some tickets available. Looking forward to it! Lieve in London PS Quickly also a message to the person who posted some time ago, saying he and his family were going to be in London around Easter time if I remember correctly, and suggesting some get-together with London JMDLers. I am sorry that I did not respond, but I was not sure of my plans at that time and so I decided to reply later. But now I cannot find that post any more. So if you are that person or know who it was, could you maybe let me know? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 16:10:51 -0700 (PDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Retro Covers, Volume #48 Woo-hoo! Those judges are as nuts as our politicians, and even more inconsistent. I thought Didi's performance was horrible: straining (and often missing) for notes (especially higher notes); fumbling thru the lyrics; and again, almost losing her voice in the last couple of notes. Maybe she has what it takes to be a pop flavor-of-the-month princess, but a great singer she ain't. I can't imagine they would ever do a Joni Mitchell week, and I sincerely hope they never do--I couldn't take the butchery! I LOVED DiDi tonight! My fave of the night. I wasn't expecting to like her. I still liked Lee tonight too. The only one that was a complete trainwreck was the dude with the High School Musical hair - First I was traumatized by his parents with the 10 kids because the thought of those two dancing in the sheets made me throw up in my mouth a little, and then that rendition of "Under my Thumb" pretty much left me in full retch. And Big Mike wasn't my bag at all. The dancing and odd version of one of my faves was just too odd for me. But you know, I loved the little boy and something makes me not totally dislike Lacey's performance. Anyway, can't wait to read the Muller report - now if only we could get him into Survivor, Amazing Race, and Project Runway. Yes, I am secure enough to admit I love Project Runway. Something about that miserable Nina Garcia makes me smile. Rob Ps - is it just me or is Ellen hiding her neck wrinkles, or is she all hickied up?
