I was instantly reminded of The Sundays incredible cover of "Wild Horses" and for me the challenge will be how these performers can take well-known songs and fit them to their style and make them their own like Harriet Wheeler did with that one. It'll be easy for the folks already at the top (Casey, Big Mike, Crystal, Siobhan) but it'll be a real opportunity for the other folks to put a memorable stamp on it. I guess that's what the week is all about. Another subject - do the judges still have a "save" that they can use to retain someone who gets voted out? Lots of writers last week seemed to believe that they should have saved Lilly. I have to say I was incredibly anti all the fuss that was made of her when she won 'Briatin's Got Talent', thinking it was a poor woman who looked odd and seemed to have a complex learning disability/and or mental health problem being used by La Cowell to further dominate the world. Then I heard her sing 'Wild Horses' and the gooses stood up and bumped all over me. I absolutely loved it and had to eat 'umble pie. Yes, and how will the Idolers stamp themselves and bring something new to the Stones tunes? It's fun finding out! Happy Mondays! I have to agree with Lindsay - Didi was horrid. I hate the way she sings, all choppy and halted and with that sort of fake accent tinge in her voice - someone help me out with what I am trying to say. You know what I mean - last year, there was that other girl that sang just like her. I can't remember her name, but she was the one who was making bird noises and flapping her arms the night she was kicked off. Anyway, I hate the way Didi sings. Each time after she sings, we all start talking like the way she sings. And while you'd think I'd love any Stevie cover, well, I hated both this year. I love Crystal, but she looks so miserable, and God help her if there is a disco week. And Big Mike - I dunno, he's ok, but nothing to cry over. I really like Lee, and I liked mullet-boy, but he made me so nervous to watch. And that dude that Cara/Kara was all over - he's ok, but he seems to be a hybrid of two former contestants: Bucky the hillbilly from a few years back, and that white guy with the fake dreadlocks that looked sort of like John Travolta in a really odd way - it's like those two had a love child, and Kara/Cara's boyfriend is it. And, I hate to admit it, but I don't miss Paula one bit. And while some of these girls sound interesting on first listen, you quickly come to realize that they sing everything exactly the same way, and it's just not cute anymore after you've heard one or two. In the process of trying to sing like Adele or Lily Allen, they are somehow acquiring a fake British accent - the one with the glo''al stops in i', if you ge' my drif'. ________________________________ From: Robert Procyk To: joni@smoe.org Sent: Mon, March 15, 2010 12:36:22 PM Subject: american idol top 12 njc Ok, I'm running behind the times, but I wanted to post on Idol before this week's show.
