Thanks for the offer. I held out until the last moment but, we just couldn't get the required numbers to hire that venue. I posted a lengthy explanation her, on the official OzFest Yahoo site and the JoniFest Facebook group. We needed a minimum of 30 people for Kangaroo Valley. I knew it would be an uphill battle with only 3 active members on the list from Australia. All three of us are in Sydney. It's nice to hear from someone in another state. I'm not familiar with Harrietville. Please don't be a stranger here. Introduce yourself and let us know your Joni stories. Bob, that group track was awful! Why, with so many different male voices, did it sound like one guy singing? MMmmm. Disappointed Lily went as I was looking forward to watching her grow. Todrick I didn't like much and Alex pretty much sounded like Ray Montagne although it was better than when Taylor Hicks did it. How Paige survived I'll never know. Big Mike is surprising me. Last week I said who knew he could sing like that and this week I said it again. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Mar 2010 06:28:13 -0800 (PST) From: Mags Subject: re: Dan Arborise, gorgeous acoustic music, njc Gorgeous music, tender and as one reviewer says so perfectly: "inventive and mercurial...a quiet gem"... lovely stuff, thanks for the bringing the music of Dan to the forefront. np: Cries Mags, still waiting for the sun to shine~ - --- On Mon, 3/8/10, Lieve Reckers wrote: From: Lieve Reckers Subject: re: Dan Arborise, gorgeous acoustic music, njc To: "jonilist JMDL" , olszer@xlsecurity.com Received: Monday, March 8, 2010, 7:42 AM Hi Laurent, thanks for sharing this. I also saw her play dulcimer on Rosie O'Donnell once. I don't think she played a Joni song, but she was amazing. Ah yes - the crown jewel of the evening was Cyndi. There were many great performances but Cyndi, Diana Krall, Richard Thompson, and Joni being a winter chimney will remain my favs.. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Mar 2010 08:11:43 -0800 (PST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Dan Arborise, gorgeous acoustic music, njc Right you all are! I've recently included Joni's "Just Like Me" in my Set. Although I've had a Partial Version and Lead sheet for Thirty Years, I've only recently obtained recordings of the Complete Song. This as Always been my Favorite of Joni's Songs. I think it Amazing that she never recorded It. I would think that many on this list would be Familiar with the Tune, but if not a Search on You Tube will reveal a Shortened Version from a Canadian Television Program Uncovered by Bobby Muller. It's Haunting. I can't stand Didi (Rhiannon I thought was God-awful). Both she and Lacey have what I call namby-pamby little girl voices that I can't stand. Give me Siobhan any day. Or Crystal. Who both have great tone and vocal presence. And I know Crystal's a big favorite but my feeling is we already have a Tracy Chapman. She did a great job with the song but how will she not end up sounding like a wanna be? And I know Crystal has a very hippie vibe but why do they put her in ugly black dresses and schlumpy boots? I hope her health holds out if she chooses to keep up with the show. The guys, I don't know. I'm not thrilled with any of them, although Big Mike was great. And I loved Andrew Garcia in Hollywood week and wish they'd stop pounding him about the Paula Abdul song (which was great). I wish they'd kept Katelyn and traded out Lacey, frankly. And when is Joni Mitchell week??? (Ha!)
