I totally agree with Catherine that this is the girl's year. I wish they would start eliminating them without regard to gender-they could lose about 6 of the guys and still have the best of the bunch left. That said, I don't really know who to root for. When I heard Jermaine's original audition I predicted he would win the whole deal, but his follow-up hasn't panned out. I still think he has alot of potential-but you gotta deliver, dawg. And Didi had a great audition, too, but has not stepped up. Hot tho. At this point I'm liking Katie and Michelle. For the guys I would have to say Andrew Garcia. Lee has great tone, bad pitch. I think it's a stronger group than last year, although there is no one with the pipes of Adam Lambert, or even close. RR ps tivo is def the way to go pps the American people are not qualified to choose a peanut butter, let alone judge singers (or presidents) pps I wish you could call and vote against someone, maybe I would take the time to call. Haeley is plain annoying and Tim simply can't sing well enough to be there. ppps The best moment of this season is already over: "Pants On The Ground" by General Larry pppps Scariest rumour: Simon will be replaced by Howard Stern. ACK! as Bill the Cat would say ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Mar 2010 14:06:11 +0000 (GMT) From: Anne Sandstrom Subject: Re: njc Shawn Colvin I'm so jealous! I used to go to Passim to see her all the time in the early days. It's a pretty small club, so it always felt intimate. This semester has been a rough road to travel, and now I can finally come up for air! (NPIMH: Sugar Magnolia, blossoms bloomin...) I've just been skimming the digests in Morning UConn Town lately, but the JMDL has always called to me. First, let me say how happy I am for ALL of you who got to see The Fiddle and The Drum in Seattle and the city of the fallen angels. Applause, applause, for all of your reviews! And your connections. Beautiful! Now, I have a few comments on American Idol, so I'm shining as I reel in chere Anne's and Cassy's exchange (and you know, there may be more!): From: "Anne Sandstrom" <<< So, question to all interested - if you were auditioning for Idol, (the a cappella portion), what song would you sing? >>> Now Cassy, warmly: So, as I've suggested in years past a version for us older folks would be awesome, they could advertise vitamins, Viagra, financial planning, Depends, Enzyte (for natural male enhancement) and Travelocity vacations. I could see the lineup... Mr. Bob Muller with his best rendition of Stevie Wonder's My Cherie Amour or maybe Dancing Clown Paz doing DMB's 41 I'd do Bonnie Raitt's I can't make you love me Kay - A Strange Boy (Angela doing The Dawntreader - well she's a bit young for American Geritol so maybe not) Kate Bennett doing my favorite "Wolf Song" Sue Mac - Marcie Robin Adler - Borderline Pearl - Leaving on a Jetplane Michele Dulson - The Scotsman Patti singing something by John Lennon and of course dear Jimmy saying "Oh no Mr. Cowel, I'm auditioning to sing backup doo wops" I can see it all now... *********** Now, me -- the chirp! Great line-up, esp. with My Boy Lollipop doing the doo wops at the end. The songs you punched are dreaming, Cassy (in a good way)! And she loves you, yeah yeah yeah: I'll take that gig! BUT, only if it could be a duet with Paul McCartney. You know I would be glad. A "Double Fantasy"--"Imagine"! Remember when Graham Nash (Willy!) performed with Brooke White? I was so mad I missed it that night, but thank the stars up above you and astronauts or whatever up above you for the star-maker machinery of youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlF94f8C_8k "Graham Nash! Wow!" And he kissed her hand. Jealous loving will make you crazy! Scrolling through youtubes briefly, I see that she also sang Let It Be, and Here Comes The Sun, You've Got A Friend, and You're So Vain. I really liked her. And she dressed classy, sort of "thirties evening gowns" it seemed, not like the weirdo (imo) outfits the girls are wearing these days. Kind of Jetson-y, non? Oh well, we all come from such different sets of circumstance. Chacun a son gout. I only watch it sporadically. It's usually on in the background as I putter around my little ranch house on the hill. If I were like Catherine and Lindsay, with kids around, I'd probably get reeled in, too. (Sigh. Kids grown and gone, like the turn of a page.) And like Walt, I *feel* for the kids when they get called out on the carpet and they don't get a round resounding from the judges. And Simon sure does get a thunderhead of judgment gathering in his gaze. Sets up trembling in my bones. They are still human beings, after all. I'm glad RR mentioned Katie. She's young and inexperienced, yes, but she's from my little corner of this marbled bowling ball, so it's a local pride thing. I guess I'll be paying more attention now, knowing that JMDLers are also watching. And no more confetti on my TV set! My sons gave me Best Buy gift cards for my b/day, so I replaced my 13" twenty year-old Sony w/ a brand new 32" HDTV. My sons kept saying: "MOM! You need a new TV!", and I always resisted because the old one worked fine, and I believe in my own sig file. Ha ha. But I rationalize that I didn't demand "another television set", I just got a "replacement*, and it was a gift. Bon weekend! Peace, Patti P. P.S. I'd also like to do a duet with Jody: "I Want To Be Bobby's Girl". Then again, no. That would not be right. We are all Bee Gees. It should be *every* girl on the JMDL doing that one. The more voices on it, the better! I will be 53 on the 9th and still think I am 27!!! What the hell.. I care less, I shout more, I dont cling onto the people who were dead weights, I stake my claim, keep up with work, do the stuff and find its easier admitting my years, than trying to counter them.. There is comfort in the knowledge that my class mates - those who are still alive are also older and equally wrinkly and have bodies that headed south a while back too - NOT going to try and compete but I keep my hair brown, keep my spirits up and just have to sigh with relief that I am NOT 19 and having to think about wearing the clothes that young girls wear any more.. The only thing I am really lacking is a motorbike, having sold mine last year - but will try and buy another one at some point and will delight at 60 in clocking a ton (doing 100mph). Old is only a term used by those who have given up... me I keep on trucking... Love and joy at still being here, having friends and taking the days as they come - good and bad. You Looooori are only as old as you allow your self to be and I cannot for one moment think you are anything other than 25 at most - but I would advise against the spandex boob tube, mini skirt and blonde hair extensions!! You go girl and keep them guessing!!
