To reflect the increasingly international scope of its programs, in 2005 amfAR became simply The Foundation for AIDS Research.' I can tell you that by 1992, AZT was the only drug that had been approved to treat the virus. Hi Mark, Our lab was studying brain reactions to HIV in the late 80's, and we published a manuscript in 1994. You can read the abstract here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8176406 There were other projects going on even before this, funded by more general agencies. We had homophobes in our lab, and their homophobia became directed toward a gay doctor who was helping with our research on HIV and the brain. My mentor and I went to a meeting in 1988 in Toronto, and while we were gone the techs got in a panic. When I returned one of them told me not to use a particular microscope because he had. Their cruelty and ignorance floored me. They treated him as if he had HIV just because he is gay. And, they had no clue about the nature of HIV, that it is a weak retrovirus that dies easily outside of the body. I read each and every single word, which means that the person who wrote this held my interest throughout. And then I came back to the next post to discover that it was written by you! Mark, you know Ive been a long time fan of you and your writing. I think what makes the impact of this review even greater is that, , you are write from a place of innocence as you are new to the experiences that ballet holds. You have painted images with your words, Mark, and I appreciate so much the time and care that you have poured into your review. I have seen the DVD and have heard stories of the ballet from others. But your review pulled me in so much so that I was there in the seat, right beside you, cheering and bursting with pride. Your words demonstrate your devotion to and connection with Joni Mitchell.. Sometimes in life, it's difficult to raise your eyes to the horizon. and look to that little light , especially when you feel worn down by tragedy on all levels. However, in the periphery of my vision, twinkles that tiny element of hope that challenges despair. This is what your article has accomplished. Like a star that dares to stand out in the night, you hold up that little light, Mark, in this moment, your words shine brightly against our darkest skies, your words offer a gift of hope. and for that, I am grateful . Im so very proud of you, Mark. with much love always Mags - --- On Tue, 3/2/10, patrick leader wrote: From: patrick leader Subject: RE: Official Seattle ballet review... Well, one thing you can say for it. It's not brief! lol! What else would you expect from me? But writing all that down (or typing it all out, I should say) has certainly helped me in keeping a lasting memory of the ballet in my mind. Richard said it and I agree. Seeing the DVD is not the same experience as seeing the actual performance. It truly was an amazing, beautiful experience. If anyone has the patience to read through the whole thing, I'd love your feedback. Some of my 'theories' about meanings, transition and so forth are probably all wrong. I really would love to read some other opinions. I hope I gave you some idea of what it was like, Paz. I really hope you get the chance to see it some day. And thanks for writing. He looked Santa-like to me too. I found it very strange that he had to leave his home (Oregon, I think?) because people were being mean to him... because he's blue. I remember seeing him on TV a few months ago. Maybe the clip was from the same show (like I'd remember anything that happened more than 24 hours ago.) ________________________________ From: Walt Breen To: Lori Fye ; Michael Paz ; Jonilist Jmdler Sent: Wed, March 3, 2010 4:09:01 PM Subject: Blue Christmas/Avatar (was Nutrasilver????)njc Hi gang, Did anyone else see the clip of the guy who looked like Santa who'd been taking high doses of silver supplements for years?
