Mark in Sydney NP Locking Down - Chicane ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 2010 19:51:17 +1100 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: "Troubador Reunion" Hi folks. I'm hoping to see the upcoming concert with Carole King and James Taylor in April. I saw a poster for it today and the banner at the top read, "Troubador Reunion". I'm assuming this is a reference to the Troubador Club in Los Angeles. That club was mentioned in BBC's, "Hotel California: From The Byrds To The Eagles". I know that Linda Ronstadt performed there regularly. Does anyone know if Joni was a regular there? I got the impression Carole King was based in New York. Was she a regular performer at the Troubador? The witch-child who squawked *The Milk-Eyed Mender* songs has been sent up to bed. Now Newsom can lilt and croon at will, two hours in her company flies by". that and the bit about how arrangements float in and out like a mirage..which helps these long songs immensely. love to all from William in Miami ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 2010 05:21:52 -0800 (PST) From: Laura Stanley Subject: Come to the Sunshine Guys, guys, guys... you can't understand the ins and outs of this song without understanding Chuck Mitchell. Every time I hear this song I hear him singing it rather than her. This song is his style through and through. It is just too obvious to this fan/friend of Chuck. He has a website and is on CD Baby where you can hear samples so you can tell for yourself. Our own Chronology (which is totally searchable like all of JM.com) does indeed confirm that she WAS a frequent performer there, particularly in '68-'69. 30 appearances between 68-73. I'd call that a regular. (njc) Hey Mark, nice review of the ballet, and I loved your Lily Tomlin reference: <> Nothing wrong with soup -- it's there to be consumed, to nourish, no? And I don't know if the audience is so much "art" itself, but without it, the soup is just soup. If a ballet is produced in the forest, and no one attends, is it art, or is it soup unconsumed (or cake left out in the rain, to slip in a quick Jimmy Webb ref)? It works fine as a fake book for keyboardists. But I was kind of astonished when I saw that "Love or Money" from MoA was AWOL. Does anyone know why? I figure it must have been charted, but maybe they lost the charts, or was it a copywrite problem? Oh, and why were the six songs (Winter Lady, Carnival in Kenora, etc) that have already been published miss the cut, too? I don't suppose they'll ever do the keyboard equivalent -- would have to come out in six volumes, or some such.
