XO Kate ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Jan 2010 15:43:23 +0100 From: "Marian" Subject: Surprising Joni synchronicity Today I was changing the paper underneath my cat's feeding mat and grabbed some old newspaper from a stack that my daughter was using for an art project. The bit I grabbed had too many pages in it, so I opened it up to the middle to take out a few pages and, lo and behold, there was a picture of Joni Mitchell and quite a long article in German about her Shine CD and Herbie Hancock's "The Joni Letters". The article, written by Gunther Baumann, from the newspaper "Oesterreich", dated 24 September 2007, is very complimentary. I would be happy to transcribe it from German into English for the website. Maybe it would be good to keep the original German as well. If either/both would be wanted, somebody let me know and I'll do it. I found my previous registration worked just fine. One thing though - the link to the JMDL on the Forum page ( http://jonimitchell.com/forum/ ) is giving me an 'Page not found' error message. ie where it says: "If you want a more traditional type of discussion, the *Joni Mitchell Discussion List* is an email based forum that has been around since 1996. We'd be happy to have you join us there." Going to http://www.jmdl.com/ I find this message: > The JMDL website has been temporarily taken off line due > to budgetary restraints. Please head over to JoniMitchell.com > in the meantime. We hope to be back soon. So currently it seems like there's no way in to the JMDL (?) As much as I love the current membership, it's always great to see posts from new members from time to time. I have been a huge Pat fan since his first record. he kinda lost me for a minute when he was doing his $5 harmonica sound with the $500,000. Synclavier system, even that was cool too. It's kinda ironic as I was having a long conversation with Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band/ Bela Fleck horn player) about the Ornette Coleman period of Pats history. There was another period I struggled with but was ultimately won over by the brilliance of the playing. Jeff had some really cool footage of him jamming with Ornette in his apt in NYC. Jeff came out and hung out with us in Nashville a couple weeks ago and took about 600 pictures of the band. He has an amazing eye. Orchestrion sounds amazing and I am glad to hear the real guitar sound back along with the layers of all the extra toys. I can't wait to see him again. We have the same agent so I might get lucky this year. I am out the door to go buy this record. Thanks again. My new cd "The Beauty of a Soul" is coming along fabulously and I am making it available for pre-order. It was recorded live in the studio and features 11 songs that are all, each in their own way, about the beauty of a soul, whether it is the soul of a person, a city/place, or a newborn baby. There is a simplicity about them which also lends itself to the nature of a soul...simple yet complex. The release date will be in the early spring. The track listing is as follows. 1. The Most Beautiful Boy in the World 2. Ahdayneekay 3. Sailing to New Orleans 4. Shine 5. The Beauty of a Soul 6. Dreaming of You 7. Angel 8. Jennifer 9. Roses 10. Song for Melissa 11.
