Are you people trying to tell me something?? I am trying to find dates that will work for me. Stayed tuned to this channel for news in this regard. The rumors are true seeing as some guy under the influence of some heavy medication (Thanks Dave Robin Kakki Jimmy et.al.) I made some drunken promise to host another of these blessed things we call JoniFests in the city of New Orleans. Just remember all of you who promised to help me this time around (and you know who you are!!!!) Leading potential weekend is Labor Day as it is Southern Decadence weekend in New Orleans and that would really give all you sinners some added extra incentive. I will get back to you soon as I know I have to get off this bloody fence. Besides my arse is killing me! You know, we had a Jonifest in SoCal last September, and I asked a couple of people about you, but nobody had any news, so what good fortune to have you back here! Really sorry for the hard times you have gone through, but I trust you are in a much better space now (mentally and physically, cause Utah really is a beautiful place) and that you will hang around for a good long time. You asked a number of questions, and you've probably had all the answers by now, but just in case this answer did not come through: Joni has lost both her parents by now. Her dad went first, and her mum more recently.>> Hotmail: Free, trusted and rich email service. Get it now. Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. I have been checking out her music over the last couple of days since I saw the first post about her. realized this is an artist my friend Freddy Koella worked with. Freddy worked with my friend Zachary Richard for years and then got tapped to be in Dylan's band. we went to see him at Jazz fest the on his first tour with Dylan. He was a couple of weeks into the tour and then they played Jazz fest and we went with Zack to see him. Backstage I asked him how it was going and in a wild eyed response in his french accent he said, "oh man my head is about to burst!" He related that it was hell trying to keep up with songs Dylan might call on a moments notice and of course change them all around... well I digress. You all know what Dylan is like. Anyways I really have been enjoying Lhasa's work. Paz P.S. Anyone going to Folk Alliance this year in Feb?? So sad to hear of her death at only 37. Michele and I had the pleasure of seeing her perform at the Edmonton Folk Festival in 2004, and early - WAY early - on Monday morning the three of us riding the shuttle from the fest hotel to the airport, where she was on the same flight as us back to LA. A very talented, beautiful person. You are right, the venue fell through because I couldn't give a commitment and they were getting enquiries (seems like a lot of weddings are taking place in March). For that particular venue, I needed to have at least 30 people. It was Kangaroo Valley, NSW not Kangaroo Island which is off the coast of South Australia. As you can see on the Yahoo OzFest site, there are not even close to that number. Not even all of those members are committed. It is with deep sadness that I must announce the demise of OzFest 2010 due to lack of interest. It was just a pipe dream that I had to organise the first ever JoniFest in the Southern Hemisphere. Thanks to those who gave their commitment so early and stuck with it. Mainly Lieve and Bob Muller and also to Michael Paz who was enthusiastic from the beginning too. With only three active JMDL members in Australia, it was always going to be an uphill battle. I even went spruiking at the Sydney Opera House during the recent Joni Mitchell tribute concert. People were very polite and took my flyers and the bar allowed me to leave a pile there too. Maybe one day in the future, when economies improve and there is a bigger JMDL membership from Australia, we can try again. In the meantime, maybe I'll see you at one of the Northern Hemisphere Fests.
