Long and sentimental I want to add to Paz's sentiment and say thanks to Kakki for a great report from Jonifest. I can't believe it's been over 6 weeks since we were in Idyllwild. I think about my experience there every day and miss all my great friends, old and new. It is amazing how you can walk into a place 3,000 miles from where you live and feel like you are right at home with friends who you feel you've known your whole life. I'll never forget it. :) And the music! Ahhh ... I'm so grateful to Dave for preserving all the great times. I have the recordings downloaded on my computer at work and can listen any time I want here at the word mine. Thank you Dave and Robin for all the work you did to pull off an amazing experience. Thanks to Cassy for running the raffle for the website ... I love my Clouds cup, (thanks Kenny!) and my Jonifest tshirt (thanks Dave!), but the real keepsake from the weekend is the love I feel for all of you!! And the beautiful music. Long and sentimental SIGH!! I will never get around to doing it so thanks to Kakki for this excellent report. I am in Brussels and had a wonderful meal of Moules and Frites of course. I took Rickie our piano player to dinner cause someone pick pocketed his wallet right in from of the damn hotel. this is such a goergous city but I am struck by the poverty here. It is so "in your face". And it is very expensive! Yikes I don't know how people do it. Anyways I am all teary eyed after reading Kakki's post so I think I will just go cry myself to sleep and think of better days when I was with true friends who love you even if you screw up lyrics to songs you know so well. Luv Paz P.S> Great to see JR back on the list! Came down with that nasty old H1N1 (or maybe "J1M1";-) flu right after returning from the Fest. All the great memories and music there (I hauled home a huge stackload of all available CDs) have given me a lot of comfort in my temporary disability and the good ! vibes are still so strongly with me. Have recovered and am now ready to wax prolix LOL. Thanks to Dave for the recordings of some of the live music - betcha by golly wow, indeed! Love it! You made my day when you joined in with the song circle on the Stevie tunes. And thanks to all for the fantastic photos! I want to most ravingly thank Dave, Robyn and their friends and family so much for all their hard work and putting on a virtually perfect Jonifest in such a beautiful setting. It was so well thought out and well done and all your efforts are greatly appreciated. I also am SO appreciative and grateful for the many in our group who traveled so far and wide (and even near and wide) to be there. Man, did we ever have a great cross-section of the group attending. Really missed lots of the rest of you all, too. Words cannot convey what a sweet time was had. Most everyone has co! nveyed so much already - but I still wanted to put in my raves and thanks because you all mean so much to me. I started feeling real whimpery the last night - it was like when we were all just getting into our happy, dreamy flow, then it ends all too soon and we have to turn back into our everyday pumpkins ;-( NOT fair at all! ;-) It meant incredibly a lot to many of us to finally get to meet JMDL true original Sue Mac, who has long been legendary in our world here. Despite her "local" celebrity, she is truly one of the nicest, coolest, down to earth persons you will ever meet. Sue, you represent us so well! Thanks so much for coming out to the west coast and please try to come back again soon! It was fabulous to meet Lieve after all these years of great email back and forth. Thank you for taking the time to visit in L.A. and traveling the long and winding road to the idyllic Idyllwild with Paz and me. Obviously, we have a surfeit of thoughtful and intelligent i! ndividuals in our group but you are one of the most brilliant persons I have ever met, on or off list. I loved that you learned your impeccable command of the English language from watching (subtitles) two of my favorite childhood TV shows - The Flintstones and Bonanza! Also thank you for the fantastic James Morrison (Brit guy, not the Doors guy ;-) CD. It is exactly my fave combination of old school/new school soul/jazz! Please come visit again soon! Henning and Laura - it was so great to meet you and thanks for making the trip and gifting me with your time and CDs. I hope you had a wonderful time in SoCal. You are so talented and I wish we could have had more chances to do more of the Beatles songbook. That was so nice! Cassy and Brad - Thanks for everything - you were a such large part of the heart and soul of the event. Cassy really had us with tears streaming down our faces w! ith her performance of "Northern Star" by Alice Peacock. Firsttime I ever cried at a musical performance at a Fest. WOW. Had a hell of a time finding the CD for that song - for those still searchng for it - it is a hidden fecking track on Peacock's self-titled album - but I have it securely in hand now ;-) Thank you for running the Joni auction and thanks so much to Kenny B for the gorgeous coffee mugs he created - I snagged the wonderful For The Roses/Clouds collectors' edition! And thanks also Cassy for the gift of a beautiful martini glass - heehee! Kay - I have always loved and been struck by your beautiful music (heard live many years ago at one of the Fests). I love your CD - it is SO perfectly done. You are a true original and I wish you all the best with pursuing your gift. Please keep going for it - you HAVE it, girl! I'm still chuckling at your remark of us both spending time working in the "Asperger's Community" (Law firms, ahem) LOL! ! Sweet Jimmy! So happy I had you to hang with in the "grotto bar" till all hours of the night! Or the "first row box seat," so to speak. It was so great to be with you again and so funny how on the last night people in the neighborhood were just coming in off the street and thinking I was the bartender-ess and you assisting me with filling some of the various drink orders HA! Get yourself back out here again soon! Jody, Jody, Jody! You have always been one of my very favorite Joni friends. One night Paz and I decreed that you are truly the official Sweetheart of the Joni Rodeo - and you know, we have been down to many of these rodeos before. You are such an amazing warm, generous and FUN person, so just accept that you are IT and thank you always for that! ;-) Bob! FINE job on all the songs, especially the improbable Dancing Clown and Tax Free and ooooo, the Earth Wind & Fire and the St! evie, too! Think we need to start a tradition of a "soul subs et" of the song circle. What fun! God, I was contemplating your thought about us all ending up one day in the JMDL retirement home and thinking seriously, yeah, where else would we ever want to end up? Hee ;-) So glad you made the trek and hope you will have that SoCaro fest one day in the future! Angela - A-Pod - it was wonderful to meet you - you can hang with the best of us and are so talented and pure of voice! I hope we can all get together again soon at a North or South or in-between Calif. get-together. Lesli and Petey (and Goldie the dog) I am so glad you were able to join us against some odds. You just HAD to be there and you finally were! I am so late but want to also thank you for hosting us (Paz, Dulsons, Dave Blackburn and me) for a musical minifest at your beautiful vine-covered villa (with full blown recording studio) at the top of Topanga a few months back. That was another spe! cial and magical time for me. Thanks to Pete for joining in with us and filling in on drums. Pearl and Steve - Glad you were here and it was great to catch up with you again. Pearl, you really did an amazing job on LOAJP on such last minute notice! That was another highlight of the music performances. And thank you also, for yet another beautiful martini glass gift ;-) It was great to finally meet long time lister Happy the Man, Craig, and his Laura. Yes, they really are about 7 feet tall and a strikingly gorgeous couple. Laura is a reallly sweet person and also has an amazing singing voice. Jeannie gets the award for the list beauty queen and small bird charmer and I personally envied and admired her many changes of beautiful outfits ;-) Jeannie - so glad you made it out here (and back to LAX so early in the a.m.) You surely brought the glamour! Ashara, Jonifest CEO Emeritus, you ! are looking just glowing these days! So glad you made the tri p and I hope you enjoyed sitting back as a particpant this time around! All the best to you in everything. Delene and Barry - you two are amazing! Geez, your energy is so fabulous whether you be playing the music or fixing the food or having the cigar break. You are a delight. I absolutely love your CD. It is the music I love - positive and perfectly executed. The production is also so bright and outstanding. Kudos to you and your recording engineer, Mr. Blackburn. Thanks for your huge contributions to the Fest. Kate and Jeff - you two only get more beautiful and handsome with time. It was wonderful that you could be there and lend your great musical presence. Steve and Michele and Lindsay - some of my oldest friends on the list. I was kind of startled at some of our reminiscing of various events from the "old days" - they really were some years ago! I'm so glad you fi! nally got to a Jonifest! Now you see a bit why some of us are so crazy for them. We will see each other again, soon, I am sure. Thank you always for your long friendship. Paz - thank you for being my personal chauffeur, Sherpa, late-night collaborator, martini pourer, escort to the Joni prom, putting up with me and being my best pal. It was such typical Paz magic that one of my fave performers at PazFest 2000, Kevin Danzig, just so happened to performing down the street while we were there and was able to come and hang with us at the Inn. Yet another wow and high moment connected with the Paz ;-) Have a good and safe tour through Europe and see you here with the band in a couple months! Another amazing event was Duane Kasack (original listmember, attendee at the first Jonifest and attendee at the 98 Joni concerts/parties) emerging in Idyllwlid after years of not hearing from him! Jus! t blew my mind. Duane, if you are out there lurking, you just made my month by making contact with us again. You are looking as stylish and dapper as ever and it was incredible to see you again! Now, please do keep in touch, you hear?! Thank you Patti P for the beautiful roses for around the room - they were in our favorite arrangement ;-) Thanks to all. Take care, love, kisses and sweet dreams until we all meet again.
