Even more since I saw the video (see my wallpaper for this song at jmdl.com/wallpaper). I mentioned it recently in my review of the Joni Mitchell Tribute show at the Sydney Opera House last week. The performance of this song in particular was a major highlight of the show for. Louise Perryman introduced the song by speaking of the need for a sense of community in troubled times. Then, the most awesome performance with Louise singing lead and three of the other women doing backing, each one "playing" a different role. It really made the lyrics stand out for me. I must say that after Terra's investigation, I am quite assured that the message was simply "doing what it says on the tin", as we say here (taken from a very successful series of TV adverts for some home improvement products: they do exactly what they say, e.g. waterproof your wall in one hour). It seems most likely that this guy was really trying to get some people to listen to his Joni radio programme. In a way, you can call this spam indeed, because it is unsolicited advertising. He may well have taken the addresses from the JMDL. But I would not blame him for that. My fear was that this was more malignant, i.e. someone spreading a virus or the like, using the info about this radio station as a cover. And, if we have all been ultra cautious and not clicked the links, I guess we will never know. The programme was due yesterday so it's no longer relevant, but if anyone finds out any more about these emails, I for one would be interested to hear! If I had more time, I would contact the "real" Thomas Callahan. If he really sent the message, he may think about less suspicious ways of advertising his programme in the future! Also, of course, if anyone actually heard the Joni programme, please do tell us! This woman is fabulous. I'm not a big fan of covers of Joni's music but I really like what Melody Gardot did with these two songs. And she sounds great with Herbie & company. Is that Wayne Shorter playing sax? Though it was meant for Joni, it brought my eyes tears that know, understand, and feel truth and beauty when it comes straight from the spirit and soul... Love, Jeannie PS: My birthday greeting to Joni is coming up...sometimes words can't give enough to express all within....I kept singing out loud as I did my chores and even at the grocery store, lines from the 'Tea Leaf Prophecy,' thanking God that Mollie McGee thought Private Anderson looked so cute in his uniform and that their nights were soft and strong....and that they gave us Roberta Joan---our Joan---everyone's Joni. njc - --- On Sat, 11/7/09, Mark Scott wrote: From: Mark Scott Subject: To Joni on her birthday To: "joni" Date: Saturday, November 7, 2009, 12:08 PM On this date in 1943 a life began up in Fort MacLeod, Alberta Canada. The child that was born on that day grew up to live an extraordinary life. She became a great artist and during the course of that life, she touched the lives of countless others with her art. So I celebrate you today, Joni Mitchell, for the gift of your words and music. There is no other musician that has made as much of an impact on my life as you have. Your songs have stuck in my mind for over 30 years now and they still re-play themselves more frequently than any others. You have enriched my life more than you will ever know. Happy Birthday, Joni!
