But I am feeling those inevitable post-Fest-downs. Sigh. It always ends too soon, it seems. Dave put on an amazing fest, and I do hope that he and Robin will one day feel the inspiration again. Idyllwild is beautiful and the accommodations were fantastic. Coyotes howling at night, clear night air that allowed incredible stargazing, and of course, lots of music, lots of Joni. This fest was more sedate than the Full Moon fests, which were always pretty debauched affairs. I don't know if this was due to fewer attendees (about half the size of a Full Moon fest), the absence of a few key trouble makers (you know who you are), or the fact that we're all 10 years older than we were when Ashara put on her first fest. (Holy crap, right?) My hejira continues (I was informed at fest that Joni started in Maine; I didn't realize that! Portland is my home town, and that's where I started my journey earlier this month), and I'll be in the SF Bay area later this week. For those of you in the area, I wanted to let you know that I'll be playing at Amnesia this Friday (10/2) at 9pm, following the amazing ragtime/trad jazz guitarist Craig Ventresco, who'll be playing from 7pm-9pm (who also happens to be my oldest friend in the world--since kindergarten, no joke!). Here are the deets: Kay Ashley at AMNESIA Friday 10/2 @ 9pm No cover (tip jar) 853 Valencia St. (btw 19th & 20th) 415.970.0012 OK, so that ends the shameless self-promotion portion of the email. For those of you who don't know I had the amazing good fortune to be the entertainment mgr and house performer in a coffeehouse back in '66-'67 where we booked Chuck & Joni together and then, later on separately and become friends with our queen. Soon after I joined I invited Brian Moss who was the manager to join and also discovered that Michael "Cul" Heath, a great musician and poet, who was also part of the gang back then was already a list member. So there you have it. The anomaly: Three people on the list *from the same coffeehouse*! Hence my query: No others? I mean it just baffles me that there are three of us from the same place and time and no others from any of the MANY other venues Joni played back in those days, so, if there are any others who knew her, or at least saw her perform back at that time, could you please sound off? Aside from the 43yrs of wear 'n tear the original quality was that these were taken by one of the gals with one of those little polaroid 'swinger' cameras and so, are blown up from about 2X3 size. The original price of $55 included wine pairings along with each song, but the $20 price is for the concert only. Table service for food and drink will be available, but the $20 tickets would not include the wine pairings. Some people said that they wanted to attend the concert, but not partake of the wine pairings, so we added this. For more information about the show, visit: http://www.citywinery.com/events/33025 If you are interested in a $20 ticket, please email me directly at robbi@tweedtheater.org and I will give your reservation to the venue. Sorry to interrupt all the fest reports (loving them ALL!), but I had to share this while the iron is hot. Neil Young philosophy, you know? I had an eye doctor appointment today. There's always some Joni-ness in that. I think I told you many dim years ago that on the inside of my file, it says: "Joni Mitchell fan!" Plus I went on the day Shine was released, so I was all bubbling over, shine on good humor, shine on goodwill. A few weeks ago I got a medical report in the mail on my "visual field test". It said "excellent results", and at the bottom, in her finest hand, my doctor wrote: "Have you seen the Joni Mitchell videos on utube?" So, when she walked in, I told her I loved her note and that, yes, I have seen all of them. She said her brother turned her on to them, and how addicting they are, and such a time-sucker at midnight! Then she asked "What's new w/ Joni?" so I told her about the Fiddle and the Drum ballet and the fest last weekend and the "for the roses" and then (put a quarter in the Wurlitzer and the thing begins to whirr) about "Girls Like Us". She said she never really liked Carly, and I told her that "Yeah, some people are like that", like my Joni friend in SC who skipped all the Carly chapters....LOL! She then commented that it's too bad Joni kept smoking because it really affected her voice. I told her about the Tavis Smiley interview where she called it a "grounding herb" and then I told her to check out that interview, because imo that was the best of the Shine period. I told her I did not like Charlie Rose's interview (Hi Terra!) at all because he seemed clueless and supremely uninterested in the Goddess before him. I told her he looked "heavy-lidded" and she asked me if he is French Canadian, because there is some disorder up there that causes heavy-liddedness or something. She would know. Doctor my eyes! I told her to check out jonimitchell.com, too, because it is the BEST and most comprehensive website going. She patted me on the shoulder as I left her office. I think it was a gesture of affection and respect, a little passion, and NOT one of "Oh, you poor dear. You are sooo JMOCDed!" Maybe it was both. ; ) I didn't get a chance to tell her that I'm always hoping that when she peers into my eyes with her light that she will say: "You think you're immune. Go look at your eyes they're full of moon. You like roses and kisses and ...." Last chance not lost. I'll tell her next time, after the leaves fall, and the pond over-ices. Okay. C'est tout pour le moment.
