You can score it from I-tunes or Amazon, or of course buy the entire CD. Funny thing is, when the track starts it sounds JUST LIKE Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird". I'm not making that up. On a follow-up note, I just found this AM that my list of the decade's best albums will be forwarded to the editors and included with the tallies. I know a lot of you trash RS but I still enjoy it and I think this is pretty cool. Some of the names on the ballot have been there before: Donna Summer, Darlene Love, ABBA, the Chantels, and the Stooges. Only five acts make it in. But the brat in me had to smirk and maybe scoff just a tiny bit at the line 'casting a scornful editor's eye on the typo in Mitchell's statement in the program (Yeats spelled "Yates")' and then this 'scornful editor' and Joni Mitchell devotee's quoting lines from 'Blue Motel Room' as: ("Here in Savannah/it's pouring rain/palm trees in the porch light stick like cellophane"). Stick like cellophane? I did get up and look at the lyrics in the cd just now and also looked at the lyrics on JoniMitchell.com just to make sure I haven't been hearing it wrong all these years. I've always loved this line and it is 'palm trees in the porch light like slick black cellophane'. A wonderful simile. But the palm trees don't 'stick like cellophane.' Or if they do, Joni didn't say so in 'Blue Motel Room'. Ok, so maybe I'm anal. When I first moved here I think I wrote somebody a letter and made some alterations to this line: 'Here in Seattle it's pouring rain/pine trees in the porch light like slick black cellophane'. Well pine trees (or fir trees as they mostly are out here) are nothing like slick black cellophane, dry or wet, in the light or in the dark. So maybe I'm just as bad for taking such bad poetic license, even if it was in jest. (Which it was.) Anyway, anybody who appreciates Joni as much as the author of this piece obviously does deserves kudos. It was a thoughtful, very well-written piece, even if she did get the lyric wrong. And I'm envious at the reward of her Hejira when she ended up in such close proximity to Siquomb. Maybe she doesn't read lyric sheets and has heard it wrong all these years. Many of us have our own peronal Joni mondegreens as we have confessed here on the JMDL before.
