Paz has been in touch to tell that I have been firing blanks. (Emails, I mean). I have been using a new email address and I think the problem may be that it doesn't support plain text. I so hope this one reads okay and gets there. I would like you to know that I have been writing the following: "Monica, I too am really suffering with not going to be Socal Joni fest. I had such a wonderful time last year and at Full Moon before. Maybe we should set up an on line self help group :))) We could call it '(Just A) Little Green' or maybe there's some other title? I do wish everyone a wonderful time, but goodness, I am feeling bereaved! Yours bereftly Anita" Each time I try and send it and each time read it, I just bleed a little more.....:)) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Sep 2009 10:25:27 +0100 From: Anita G Subject: Re: Mary Travers njc Oh I just read the news here about Mary Travers, She featured on a tribute to 'Woodstock' I saw just the other week. It had footage of her singing with Peter and Paul 'If I had a hammer' and she sings with such force and feeling. It was hard to see her all connected up to an oxygen tank on the programme. She sounds a very brave lady. Deb's link to photos definately shows one of Joni, not Mary, I'm sure. I do feel sad, but here's to you Mary! What a singer! I was wondering about anti-virus software for windows. I use Norton, and am a few days away from needing to renew my subsription. Before i splash out the fifty euro, or whatever it costs, i was wondering if people here have any advice. I currently use norton and, the odd time, ad-aware and spybot search and destroy (neither of which i've paid for so and am convinced that they are years out of date). I increasingly find it difficult to find what i want through google, as i tend to get an array of commercial sites that obviously are biased towards wanting to make a sale. When i find sites that have people commenting about things like this, it tends to be overly techinical (and quite dull) for my tastes (and, er, abilities). I'm wondering what anti-virus software others use and if Norton really is the best software for me to be spending my little bit of cash on. All thoughts and advice welcome. I think about you every time I clink a glass of beer with someone (which is quite often, actually) to remind myself that I'm doing it correctly. As for Norton, I'm also a subscriber and it works very well for me. It must be effective because my Mother-In-Law let her subscription lapse and it only took a couple of days for her computer to shut down with viruses. I remember seeing that for the first time when it originally aired. I was very excited to see Mary Travers. And I had never seen Joni (not sure I knew who she was at that point because I remember thinking that MT was great, but who IS the other blonde?) But I don't think I really made the connection, because I also remember being introduced to Joni in music class, when my teacher (very cool) put on Chelsea Morning and I felt the sky open. Also, my FAVORITE holiday song of all time is PPM's A-Soalin'. Mary Travis was, for me, the first female singer with whom I connected. Her contributions to society in general have definitely been understated. She was the voice of and embodiment of change. She walked the walk and didn't spend a lot of time talking about it. She just did it. Before Joni, before Joan Baez even. RIP, Mary. lots of love, Anne On Sep 17, 2009, Patti Parlette wrote: Holy merde, Joniamigos! There's nothing wrong with Norton EXCEPT the price. You can get better protection from many other programs "For Free." AVG is in all the experts' top three, and might be all you need. "I currently use norton and, the odd time, *ad-aware and spybot search and destroy (neither of which i've paid for so and am convinced that they are years out of date)."* ---Happily, no. I've used both (and several others) and never paid a cent. Some of these programs offer free and paid versions, but the free ones have all the protection you should need. The trick is you have to update them, which is usually a one-click, very fast operation. The programs will automatically tell you/remind you that there are new updates. The people who design and offer these programs for free are interested in having everyone protect their PCs for the benefit of everyone. If the viruses etc. are shut out of the majority of PCs, they'll be eradicated. I also highly recommend a very simple little free program called CCleaner (formerly Crap Cleaner) that you can run as often as you like. Within seconds, it searches your temp files, cookies, etc and lists them for you and you can delete them with one click. Same for outdated, unneeded registry entries. Doing this should speed up your PC, and it's perfectly safe. A good one-stop-shopping website where you can download these for free is www.majorgeeks.com. Good luck!
