[T Peckham ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 24 Aug 2009 00:14:57 -0700 From: "Randy Remote" Subject: Misc Music News njc Toronto area folks: Neil Young and Joan Baez will be giving free concerts at the Toronto Film Festival, which takes place Sept 10-19 in Toronto, of all places. Young will perform at the premiere of Jonathon Demme's "The Neil Young Trunk Show", while Baez will give a short concert in support of "American Masters-Joan Baez". James Taylor will donate his $500,000 earnings from playing a 5 day festival in Massachusetts to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His wife is former public relations director for the BSO and the two of them have donated point seven mill previously. Rhino will be releasing two titles by Stephen Stills on Sept 22 and Oct 27, respectively: the 15 track "Manassas-Pieces" with outtakes from both albums, and Stills' 2008 London performance, "Live at Shepherd's Bush". Pays to be English: The BBC has a new documentary, "The Beatles on Record" that boasts interviews, unheard music (supposedly), rare footage, etc, as part of their weeklong tribute to the band in September. Meanwhile, on 9/9/09, their remastered catalog comes out. A limited edition mono set of their albums and singles has already sold out on Amazon, but can be found at Tower and Barnes and Noble. I admit I ordered it, but will wait on the stereo CDs...Okay, I'll spring for Abbey Road and the White Album, but I'll wait for the rest until they come out on Blu-Ray. Asked about that, McCartney said "there's plenty of time". Hopefully we'll live that long. Bill Withers (Ain't No Sunshine, etc) has come out of retirement to write a new song, "Telephone Call Away" for George Benson's new album, which also features the late Donny Hathaway's daughter Layla on vocals. The upcoming album is called "Songs and Stories". ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Aug 2009 07:56:19 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: RE: "I look at the markets from Both Sides Now" And further to what Richard said, this guy gets busted: http://www.thestockmasters.com/node/1639 Bob NP: Elvis Costello, "Men Called Uncle" - ------------------------------------------------------------ The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain proprietary, business-confidential and/or privileged material. (Not to mention all of the Joni stuff, including meeting and talking to her...who would have thunk it?) Sounds corny but it's totally true. Can't wait to have some new memories at Jonifest in a month. These were live tracks she had on her website about a year ago. They were discussing the show "30 Something" with cast members, and the host mentioned a scene in which Joni Mitchell's River was played. Next they played the song with the piano intro and a few lines of Joni singing. It was nice to hear. I used to watch that show, but don't remember hearing the song.
