He covers Judy Collins' gorgeous Since You've Asked. Hi Jerry, Dan Fogelberg's style and voice are a perfect match for this song, which is my favorite by Judy. Thanks for telling me he sings it. I heard the album years ago but wasn't very familiar with Judy at the time so I didn't make the connection. If I remember the story correctly, it is the first song Judy wrote. She wrote it at the inspiration of Leonard Cohen who suggested she write something original to sing. Wealthy the spirit that knows its Own flight Stealthy the hunter who slays His own fright Blessed the traveler who journeys The length of the light. ********** Wow! That's beautiful! Just the spiritual shot in the arm I needed this morning. Woke up, trying to find some comfort in melancholy. My youngest brother called last night. He and his sons are going through a very tough time. It was very late when he walked in and his talking, as it rambled, revealed suspicious reasoning. I gave him comfort and consultation, trying to lighten up his heavy load, but, Joni-truth be told, the conversation left me with the blues inside and outside my head. (I worry sometimes.) And then, voila! Like lightning from above. This morning's digest, that mainlines to my blues. These fiery gems (yours, too, Jerry) have helped me this morning, and I thank you for giving out anything (something) to grow and feed on. Plus, I learned a new word. Descant! It's almost like she's singing soprano in the upstairs choir, n'est-ce pas? PLUS, I have never heard this song (or her voice on it, the BETTER!) before, so to hear some brand NEW Joni is like -- you know the old expression -- music to my ears. Shiver me timbers, indeed! This list sometimes just rocks your soul. Merci mille fois, Mags and Jerry, and everyone else. To unearth a coin our Smurfy made in People's Park: Shirley Yu! ; Peace (I said it like it was something to strive for), Patti P., another Carly afficionado P.S. About Icarus Ascending -- quelle coincidence title, indeed, Mags! Also, beautiful CLOUDS in that video. GOOD clouds in my coffee (although it's tea and lemonade I'm sipping in Mansfield Morning Town). And naturellement, I had to google the lyrics. So beautiful and uplifting. I'm going to send them to my little brother, so the gift goes on. Soaring alone upon a threatening wind Just fix your eyes on the horizon Cut off from everything You've known or have been I shouldn't think it's so surprisin' Spiralling upward on a freshening lift Reaching the realms of fleet Apollo You have been given the most sacred of gifts You must be fearless now and follow [Chorus:] Don't look down Though your heart may be weary Don't look down Though your wings are on fire Don't look down Though the night may seem endless There's a reason you're flying This fast and this far Let your faith be your strength And your love be your guiding star Venturing further than The length of your sight Out past the reach of your beginnings There is a gamble in each Proud act of flight But the losses pale before the winnings Circling and diving with this Freedom you've found Illusion blows apart and scatters There is no darkness in this place That we're bound Love is the only thing that matters [Chorus] Up.....up.....up.....up.....
