Things at work are a bit dark here as well. We just lost a project that was employing 400 people and they're de-staffing at 50/week - lots of friends losing their jobs or being offered working in Afghanistan, a pretty tough choice in terms of field work. I certainly have no problem with Joni's creative vocals - she does it ALL the time and it's one of the things that I love about her singing. Who else but Joni would sing the word "glide" over about a 12-syllable measure? Love it. It's just another way that she is defined in the jazz realm and not as a folksinger imo. I've never cared for the vast majority of CMIARS - the songs, the production, the obviously included guest stars she exploited to commercialize the project, it's just too sterile for me and it only gets worse with time. Ticket agent Avi Messing told Israel's Channel 2 TV that the 47,000 tickets for the Sept. 24 concert at a stadium near Tel Aviv went on sale Saturday evening, and by Sunday afternoon they were all gone. Prices ranged from $90 to $315. Cohen's management says profits from the performance will go to Israeli and Palestinian groups working for coexistence. The Jerusalem Post daily has reported that among the beneficiaries would be bereaved parents from both sides who are working for peace. ***** Good. I know I was getting some messages previous to this announcement, calling for a boycott of the concert. This seems like a good solution. Both sides now get some help. Does anyone hear from Nuriel? Now what can a person with no health insurance do besides pay the hospital back the thousands of dollars (a friend told me a cat scan at the place I went is 5,000) for the rest of my life? The National average for a CT Scan of the head without using "contrast" (dye) is around $500, Monika, give or take a few dollars. If they used contrast it's closer to $780.00 Now for the interesting part. **No Contrast... Average Outpatient Charge $428.16 Average Medicare Payment $193.47 Average Medicaid Payment $116.80 Average Insurance Payment $370.69 **With Contrast... Average Outpatient Charge $775.35 Average Medicare Payment $279.93 Average Medicaid Payment $168.99 Average Insurance Payment $603.90 I have had some experience with medical payments in the U.S. - more than I'd like - and often the provider writes off what the insurance won't cover (reasonable and customary charges are paid). The individual without insurance pays the whole outpatient charge regardless of what an insurance carrier considers reasonable and customary. Too bad they don't just let the individual pay what they would get from a carrier since it's the individuals who more than likely need the financial break. ** Information from the Spectrum Health . org website Prices vary wildly from city to city. Prices are based on overhead of the facility including salaries of the health care professionals but if you phone the hospital billing department they can give you a rough idea of what your bill will total. Be sure to ask if they offer discounts for payment in full because If you do not have insurance you may qualify for a 15% - $40% discount if the discounted balance of the procedure cost is paid in full within 60 days of the procedure. Most facilities accept cash, cashiers checks, and Visa, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. Depending on your financial status and specific situation, a greater discount or charity may apply. In addition there may be other alternatives to working out payment and/or procedure cost reimbursement. Be sure to at least talk to someone to try to reduce the billed amount. Based on your financial situation and living expenses you may qualify retroactively for Medicaid assistance from your state. I hope this is helpful.
