I grew up listening to his stuff in Detroit. I have yet to purchase Neil Young's Archives that came out earlier this month. Don't get me wrong, I love any and all new or new/old material being released but money is tight. Anyhow, I think that is a very interesting idea--to have fans submit something for liner notes. It is very fan friendly and inclusive. I mean, what more can Joni say about some of her songs that she hasn't said before throughout all these years? This is different and is very, very intriguing. - -Mon u, 6/25/09, Les Irvin wrote: In November 2009, Rhino Entertainment will be releasing a Joni Mitchell box set. The 4 CD and 1 DVD package will have over 85 songs, from the mid-sixties up to Joni's last album "Shine". Several unreleased songs and alternate versions will be included, plus very rare and previously unissued video performances spanning Joni's incomparable career. Joni will be contributing notes to the package and overseeing the photo edit and design. Instead of traditional liner notes, Joni would like to invite the community to send in a statement of why they enjoy the music. It can be one sentence or a short paragraph and the best will be chosen for the liner notes for the project. It can be a personal experience with the music or why in general you like it. Joni feels it might be more interesting to hear from the people who truly like the music rather than from a critic or PR person. I don't want to have to take out a loan just to buy a box set. If this thing ends up cost $100 or so, that puts it kind of out of reach, if it's a choice between buying that and getting groceries. I'd like to see the box sets put out as a series of single volumes, so maybe you could fork out $20 at a time and still have grocery money. If you factor in that there could be a lot of repeats of things we've seen in other compilations with one or two new tidbits thrown in, it becomes less attractive. I really hate to sound like a party pooper, but meh, that's how I feel. - --- On Thu, 6/25/09, Monika Bogdanowicz wrote: I am cautiously optimistic as well only because I am poor and people keep putting out boxsets! I woke up one morning and my kids were almost grown and I was old and realized I've been working at the same place for 30 years and I don't feel like I've got a lot of energy left to write that great novel or whatever it was I was supposed to have been doing. In fact, I can barely remember what it was I was supposed to have been doing. Wow. I'm depressing myself! But you're right - life does go quickly the older you get. - --- On Thu, 6/25/09, mia _ wrote: < Subject: Anyone with more money than God... might want to buy A copy of Joni's high school yearbook http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250376332810 It's pretty spendy though at $600. That's Joni and her daughter and her 2 grandkids. Very interested with this new boxset. I don't care if it is finally priced for more than 100 USD. Gonna save money now. I was really sad about Farrah today - maybe it's because she had cancer, which took my mother last summer very, very quickly, or because I keep remembering that poster from when I was a boy and realizing that if she's dead at 62, I ain't a boy anymore (I am not old, I'm told, but I am not young....), or maybe it was just that I cheer for the underdog and she really was the underdog - I thought she was both beautiful and talented - but it got to me. And then Michael died, and while my heart goes out to his kids and family, I was watching CNN and Larry King says "We had a whole hour planned for Farrah tonight, with Dominic Dunne, but now we'll make mention of her and it will be TWO hours of Michael." Like, in death, you can still get bumped? My immediate thoughts were "when you die Larry, let's hope Lohan or Spears doesn't die the same day, or you will be bumped too my friend." Imagine, being bumped when you die... Ashara, send me some love and light. I'm getting more cynical in my old age, and fear I'll never get back to the garden...
