It's kind of a Canadian cliche to talk about the Group of Seven and a lot of us were smacked over the head with it as kids, to the point where I got tired of it. But when you see the real paintings and not reproductions in some book, it means so much more. Even though Emily Carr wasn't one of that group, her work is similar, and I like it more than the Group of Seven's stuff. - --- On Tue, 6/9/09, Mags wrote: sorry , i forgot to add the link http://www.mcmichael.com/exhibitions/efg/indexpast.cfm it's a beautiful gallery set back off the road, surrounded by coniferous trees mostly, cathedral ceilings and one of the most wonderful places to visit canadian art works ... still waking up, me ;-) __________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Jays show was funny and moving and full of wonderful moments and at the end when asked about his "legacy" he acknowledged all of the relationships which the show stimulated and brought out a young woman who had been featured on one of the first shows they did; she was one of the band member's daughter and they did a feature on her when she was about 3 days old. She came out on stage, now 17 yrs. old, and then he opened his curtain and said their legacy was the 68 children born of the staff of the show while it was on the air. It was a very touching moment. There is a bit of video footage of this moment at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/29/jay-lenos-final-tonight-s_n_209300.html One of my favorite moments was when he introduced his final musical guest. He talked about leaving Boston years ago, driving to Hollywood to begin doing the show and hearing a song on the car radio which had a line "With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go," it struck him that he had about 10 miles behind him back to Boston, he was starting a long journey and who could know where he was going with it. The song stayed with him ever since and he wanted James as his final musical guest to complete the circle. He said James had had to move heaven and earth to be there, had rearranged his entire schedule but there he was. James came out and sang "Sweet Baby James." He sat on a stool with his acoustic guitar and sang a beautiful rendition. It brought tears to my eyes for several reasons, this is my son, James' and my song. I played it when he was a baby late at night when he was fussy, rocking him in my arms and sometimes dancing around the living room. I had many sweet moments with my own sweet baby, James and it all came flooding back hearing that beautiful rendition. You can seethe whole show on Hulu at: http://www.hulu.com/watch/75216/the-tonight-show-with-jay-leno-fri-may-29-2009 The James Taylor introduction comes in about 32 minutes into the show.
