I have to echo your sentiments. I loved the ballet too and have made my own DVD package of it. I think it's especially gratifying in light of the fact that Joni made very few music videos. This is like the music video I've been wanting all these years. I also agree with you on CMIARS. I rediscovered Joni in the '80s after my hitchhiking teen years so, CMIARS was part of my introduction. Being a fan of Peter Gabriel helped give my appreciation a nudge with My Secret Place. I loved Snakes and Ladders with Don Henley. These days, I appreciate Joni for her own talents more and have a new appreciation for The Tea Leaf Prophecy and A Bird That Whistles - amongst my favourites of Joni's work across the board. Some of my students know Kris. My thoughts are if the audience was older Adam would have won. There are plenty of great and gay singers for him to be counted among. The audience who multiplied votes for Kris were computer savvy kids. My students told me how they were doing this. About 38 million votes for Kris came from Arkansas. Adam is awesome!! He is a mix between Freddie Mercury and Elvis in my opinion. I would buy an Adam album but not one by Kris most likely. Probably, Adam's sexuality still gets in the way of him winning in the US and probably most of the world, but, as Paz, said, he's going to be a huge winner anyway. I simply LOVED seeing Adam with Kiss (that probably didn't help his chances much, either, but it was brilliant) and seeing the lovely Alison with Cyndi Lauper was just wonderful. So much brought tears to my eyes, mainly because I was imagining what it might mean for some of the great JMDL singers to be on stage, doing their thing as in AI, and then saying 'LADIES AND GENTLEMAN - - JONI MITCHELL' and out comes Joni and they sing together. Goodness, what would that be like for them? Our Idol equivalent winner, Alexandra Burke, sang a duet with her all time heroine, Beyonce, when she won at Christmas. It was so touching to see the disbelief, admiration and sheer joy busting out of Alexandra as she tried to match Beyonce singing run for singing run. At one point, Beyonce did something vocally and Alexandra's mouth just opened wide and she gave this great nodding of her head that seemed to say 'WOW - did you hear that?' All great. Seeing Adam with Kiss last night, I thought he was just at home. That boy doesn't the show. Just less foundation. Love to all Anita _____ I am using the Free version of SPAMfighter . Also, my brother and a sister were both big fans of the show or atleast some of the contestants this season. However, as far as AI contracts go, I was told something about it. Adam CAN still be signed onto AI's contract. I guess the number 1 person is automatically signed and then the 2nd up and even the 3rd up I believe can be signed onto AI's contract if AI wants them. I guess the way it works is if AI likes you and wants you, you CAN NOT refuse their contract. However, if they don't like you, they don't HAVE to sign the 2nd or 3rd up. They can refuse you but you can't refuse them. - -Mon - --- On Fri, 5/22/09, FMYFL@aol.com wrote: like Paz mentioned, it's probably best for Adam. He's going to have a career no matter what. There are so many rock bands that could use a vocalist like him. Except for the tour, he want be locked into an A.I. contract for an album. I also think that many of the voters for Chris were young girls that thought he was cute, or baby boomers that thought he had that acoustic James Taylor like charm, or the church people that supported his Christian values.. It could also be due to the complacent people (like me), that thought Adam was a sure bet, and didn't vote. Regardless, I'm happy for both of them, and if Adam is really gay, he won't have to hide in the closet since he didn't win. At first, I stayed in the kitchen being a music snob . but then a singer would sing well and I'd shout out, "hey, that was good." Then I got near the couch and sat on the edge. Then about three songs later I was between the two of them on the couch and a complete addict. It is fun to pretend to be a music afficionado and detect the slightest flat note or the ringing true note. And the auditions are a riot in some cases. Adam was from right here in my town in San Diego, went to the other high school, and of course I know people who he grew up with, etc. All that aside, I must say although I can appreciate his talents and obvious theatrical and very polished background, his singing voice is not my taste. I finally likened it to in college I had a roommate who loved Liza Minelli and I loved Joni. So it would be a race to the turntable every day. The amount of Liza I had to endure was sickening. I just don't care for that yelley-screamy voice, like Barbra Streisand, etc. I accept that they're very talented vocalists, but I just don't like it. So I'm sorry to say we voted for Kris in the end. And someone later remarked "Mr. White Bread." And they're probably right. But all along I liked Danny the best and thought he was an amazing vocalist. And later found a special with Michael McDonald, who to me is an utter dreamboat, and thought the two sound similar. I thought the final was a complete shock and that Kris isn't half as talented as Adam, whether I like him or not. But as everyone has said, he will have no problem achieving amazing success. I thought he did really well with the Queen song, exactly right for him. The Kiss stuff was a little too "easy," and I thought Queen's material had more vocal range for him. And yes, I did notice Cyndi Lauper and her dulcimer! And then said, uh, that is why Joni wore long dresses when she played it b/c watching Cyndi in pants and her legs splayed open I didn't think was all that attractive. Well, you know me, fashion critic to the end. We're going to see the AI tour this summer so except for a few of the performers I don't like at all, it will be fun. Can you imagine Joni being a mentor and smoking her cigarettes bemoaning the state of today's music and talent? Oh my gosh.
