Beautiful People You live in the same world as I do But somehow I never noticed You before today I'm ashamed to say Beautiful people We share the same back door And it isn't right We never met before But then We may never meet again If I weren't afraid you'd laugh at me I would run and take all your hands And I'd gather everyone together for a day And when we gather'd I'll pass buttons out that say Beautiful people Then you'd never have to be alone 'Cause there'll always be someone With the same button on as you Include him in everything you do. Beautiful people You ride the same subway As I do ev'ry morning That's got to tell you something We've got so much in common I go the same direction that you do So if you take care of me Maybe I'll take care of you Beautiful people You look like friends of mine And it's about time That someone said it here and now I make a vow that some time, somehow I'll have a meeting Invite ev'ryone you know I'll pass out buttons to The ones who come to show Beautiful people Never have to be alone 'Cause there'll always be someone With the same button on as you Include him in ev'rything you do He may be sitting right next to you He may be beautiful people too And if you take care of him Maybe I'll take care of you And if you take care of him Maybe I'll take care of you... My biggest beef was not with the show itself but with the voters. Adam had consistently been at the very top of the voting list until photos of him kissing a man were made public on the internet and he came out as being gay. The next week, he was in the bottom two. In many ways, being number one in AI is not a good thing. I think Adam is bigger than AI and that not being number one is good for him. I think Kris is also a fine singer but in a completely different style. Adam, IMO, covers a wider range of styles and materials, where kris is the boy next door. Nothing wrong with either. I hope Adam's sexuality wasn't a factor, but there is no figuring who votes for whom, or why. I'm sure young girls are major voters and they vote cute. Kris is cute and Adam may be a bit dangerous for the young girls. The guy is sexy as hell, no matter which team he plays for. And he is a ROCK STAR, not just a pop star. He has a great future ahead of him, regardless of who won. Silly show based on a ridiculous premise, but enjoyable this year. Once the show is over, I usually forget all about it, but it's fun while it lasts. - --- On Fri, 5/22/09, Michael Paz wrote: From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: NJC - American Idol To: "Gerald Notaro" Cc: "Cassy" , "JMDL" Received: Friday, May 22, 2009, 10:23 AM It does not really matter. I couldn't believe all the performers on the show, although it had leaked out that Adam would be singing with Kiss. I thought the entire show was so much better than the Grammy's. One of my favorite's was Alisa singing with Cindy Lauper. Both Adam and Kris have great voices, but Adam's performances were outstanding. I was surprised like the rest of the world that Adam didn't win, but like Paz mentioned, it's probably best for Adam. He's going to have a career no matter what. There are so many rock bands that could use a vocalist like him. Except for the tour, he want be locked into an A.I. contract for an album. I also think that many of the voters for Chris were young girls that thought he was cute, or baby boomers that thought he had that acoustic James Taylor like charm, or the church people that supported his Christian values. It could also be due to the complacent people (like me), that thought Adam was a sure bet, and didn't vote. Regardless, I'm happy for both of them, and if Adam is really gay, he won't have to hide in the closet since he didn't win. I don't know anything about ballet except two years ago my brother brought me to a ballet performance (very modern) at Duke University when I was visiting. It was so beautiful it was hard to explain how I was feeling after it was over. So even though I was watching the ballet on TV I had the bonus of knowing Joni's music to enhance the experience. Here's some random thoughts: * After a while I began to call the circular image over the stage Magritte's eye. I found out in the extras section of the DVD that she called it the Cyclops! I thought the imagery of the film worked beautifully with the dancers and was not a distraction at all. * My favorite pieces were Passion Play and For the Roses although all the performances were incredible especially IF at the end. I'm embarrassed I haven't listened to Shine that much. Her guitar playing on that song is incredible! (duh!) * I was very happy there were two songs from Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm (3 great stimulants and Beat of Black Wings). Has there been a thread lately of how underrated that album is? * The little girl was so wonderful - of course I was calling her Kilauren. I wonder if that was her idea or the choreographer's? I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is yet another testament to Joni's amazing creativity that she could master yet another medium. I have to go back and listen to Shine and Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm. I've been obsessing on Court & Spark for the past month. :) Take care, Sue ___________________ /___________________\ ||-------------------|| || Sue McNamara || || sem8@cornell.edu || ||___________________|| || O etch-a-sketch O || \___________________/ "It's all a dream she has awake." - Joni Mitchell ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 May 2009 11:36:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: NJC - American Idol - --- On Fri, 5/22/09, Lori Fye wrote: > Since early on, my spouse Mary and I have agreed that Adam > could easily star > in the "Life of Elvis Presley," and I personally think he > could remake all > of Elvis' silly old movies and give them a whole new life. > > All in all, it was a great season, especially at the > end. It's out-of-date and too distracting. I agree with you about Allison. Love her too. Hard to believe she's only 16 or 17. She's still very much a kid, but seems mature without being annoyingly precocious. I loved the duet she did with Adam and how "big brotherly" he was with her. I think she'd be a good choice for a Janis Joplin bio. Judging by some of the AI talk I've heard here at work, some people GET the Adam/Allison type and others absolutely do not. The people I heard talking about AI were among the type who do not and sadly, they are probably more typical of the middle-class somewhat-but-not-terribly educated type that I imagine being the usual AI voters. Yeah, fine, I'm being a snob. Whatever. For anyone wondering why I didn't vote, I don't think you can vote outside the US. And, are you allowed to vote more than once? If so, it would be easy enough to stack the votes, and I don't think anyone should be allowed more than one vote on the same show. Just my dos pesos. Oh yeah, and people should NOT be allowed to mention anything related to their religion on these shows. It's not relevant and it's annoying. Just my opinion and another half peso. __________________________________________________________________ Be smarter than spam.
