I'd be eternally grateful. Also, Robin and I are doing a live unplugged internet radio interview/ performance on Friday 29th 11.30am-12.30pm PST promoting our May 31st Joni show. When I find out the URL I'll let everyone know, in case you want to tune in (or even call in). thanks, Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 14:58:30 +0100 From: Azeem Subject: "a mediaeval Goldfrapp" njc My undisputed earworm of the moment is the album by the Mummers, called Tale To Tell. I can't stop listening to it, and feel moved to pass the recommendation to the Joni Massive, in the hope that someone will discover it who may not have done otherwise - and of course I'd love to know if any of you already love them as much as I do. The mediaeval Goldfrapp description is quite good, and I'd add that you might imagine BjC6rk if she'd never discovered computers. Raissa's voice is reminiscent of BjC6rk's, though more user friendly, I'd say. Good news is that they're on Spotify and Emusic. I'll let you slide this time and these last couple of times but I expect improvement. You need to step up your game! I'd be concerned about getting fired, but when you have a job that no one else wants it's not really a consideration. Anyway, I do have a Retro edition for y'all this month - it's Volume 38, an interesting collection of old and new stuff, folk, rarities, jazz, and even a Hebrew-language take on Chelsea Morning. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/r8j5yc And here's what's on it: 1. Barbra Streisand - I Don't Know Where I Stand (live 1973) 2. Solex - You're So Square 3. Sea Chanters - Both Sides Now 4. Itxaso & Daniel Perez - Cherokee Louise 5. Itxaso & Daniel Perez - Night Ride Home 6. Pat Valentine - Chelsea Morning 7. Julie Felix - Both Sides Now 8. Karrin Allyson - Blue Motel Room 9. Euro Grass - Woodstock 10. The Girls Next Door - River 11. David Snell - Both Sides Now 12. Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Singers - Goodbye Pork Pie Hat 13. Ensemble Petit & Screen Land Orchestra - The Circle Game 14. Patricia van Nunen - Blue 15. Patricia van Nunen - Woodstock 16. Dust & Ashes - Both Sides Now 17. Jazzbum - Free Man In Paris 18. Susan & Fran - Chelsea Morning (Hebrew) 19. Duncan Sheik - Court And Spark I still may get around to doing a write-up on #112, and I'll strive to be more punctual in June. Thanks for not voting me off the island just yet. That bong that was in Phelps' infamous picture of him smoking marijuana was actually Joni's bong. She lent it to him that night. - -Monika - --- On Tue, 5/19/09, Willie Yanock wrote: After reading the epic the first day it was released, I have only one question. I will look for that and get back with details." Well, it turns out that each of the first 40 pages or so?of the yearbook contains photographs depicting one of the lines from Windmills of Your Mind. Not bad, but not Joni. However, I also discovered that the first real page of the yearbook (page 3) contains the first line of that song (Like a Circle in Spiral ?" superimposed over a full page shot of Joni from the concert - on somewhat coarse paper, black and white, and sort of airbrushed - she looks very pretty.? I will try to get that scanned and posted, too. It is safe to say that Joni's photos were more prominent - and classier - than anyone else's in that yearbook. Even then, she was really something :-) Bobsart ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 10:21:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeannie Subject: Re: Will YouTake Me as I am Hi!
