Bob NP: The Reivers, "Discontent Of Winter" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 May 2009 19:04:02 +0000 From: "Michael O'Malley" Subject: Diana Krall on Joni (SJC) I caught the Elvis Costello Show, Spectacle, last night with Elton John interviewing Diana Krall. Krall was quite reverential when speaking of Joni, whom she mentioned at least three times. She said that when she lost her mother to cancer at the age of 60, she could not play (on the paino) any of her favourite music anymore. She said at the time she listened instead to a lot of Joni Mitchell, which helped her to put some musical ideas down and write the songs that eventually became the album, The Girl in the Other Room. She noted the originality of Joni's chord harmonies. She said at one point (Everyone loves Joni Mitchell,`` a comment that was greeted instantly by applause from the audience. She also played a lovely rendition of A Case of You, quite differently than I had heard her do previously. I give her kudos for that, keeping her interpretation fresh and real. Another figure she holds in the greatest esteem is Julie London, go figure. Interesting. I probably need to listen to her more. Now all this said, I'm still not a huge Diana Krall fan. I think I prefer the work of Eliane Elias. However, Krall and her trio played a mean version of Oscar Peterson's Night Train. Hot. Michael in Quebec NP : Sophie Milman - Be Cool (Thanks Bob !) _________________________________________________________________ Internet explorer 8 lets you browse the web faster. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9655582 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 00:44:49 EDT From: FMYFL@aol.com Subject: Re: NJC AM.
