It first appeared on his 1980 CBS Norway lp "Midnight Son"--not listed at jonimitchell.com, but it is listed at Eric's discography page (and I personally own a copy): http://www.ericandersen.com/discography.htm The song later appeared on the second Danko, Fjeld and Andersen CD "Ridin' On The Blinds" in 1994 with liner notes explaining how it is about Joni--this version is listed on jonimitchell.com. In addition to the original 1972 recording of "Blue River," there is a 1982 live version with Joni on the OOP disc "Eric Andersen, Live at the Mudd Club." Another interesting tidbit is that Joni sang on "The Woman She was Gentle on th 1975 "Be True to You," but on the lost version that finally resurfaced in 1991 as "Stages, the Lost Album," Joan Baez does the back-up vocals. Oh yeah, if you are in the Boston area, Eric Andersen is playing at Club Passim tomorrow night. Idol Hey everyone, thanks for the responses - its good to hear how other people see these things. Catherine, yes! I also thought Jamie Fox (Foxx?) was really good at this, and that he really touched these people and made alot of sense. I keep wanting to say "kids". Adam is the one my S.O., Linda, is crazy about. I like him too, well enough, as well as Allison, but on last night's show I felt they all really shined bright. I was just talking to my Mom about this, she also agrees this is a particularly good group, but said other seasons were really good too, like for instance she mentioned the Jennifer Hudson season. Not sure why it seems so palatable this time. I sure don't mean to be snobby about it (or about anything). Its just one of those if you like it, eat it and if you don't, well, don't eat it and inevitably say "ewwwwwww". ::shrug:: dunno, it just happens.
