I am nearly certain I recall having seen a picture of her in the studio during the Mingus sessions. It's B&W, and she's standing behind the mic, singing, arms slightly outstretched, and wearing a blouse (or dress?) reminiscent of something Billie Holiday or another 40s/50s jazz singer might have worn. I've done a google search for Joni images and didn't see (or else just overlooked) the picture. I am in the library at the moment, and don't have access to my books, etc at home, and it may be in one of the biographies??? However, if anyone knows offhand a quick link to this image, I'd appreciate it.
