It's lovely to read pieces from the heart, especially when they are so positive, so full of hard-earned wisdom, as the one you wrote. I don't want to break confidences, but I was speaking on the phone with another list member who needed some support, and when I saw your piece I copied it, planning to forward it to him, because I found it so inspiring. But of course I didn't need to forward, because he said to me: "Did you read Patrick's piece about fear? That was so inspiring"! I think this is also a good example of the power of this list, even when sometimes people don't realise. I believe a good number of pieces are written without ever getting reactions on the list, but the writers should not despair and think they are being ignored, because so often their words have have hit targets they have not even seen or heard of. This way I also want to thank all those people whose messages I have enjoyed, laughed with, learnt from, etc, without always letting them know. Lots of love of this Easter Sunday, Lieve in London PS I'm about to go out into the garden to hide some chocolate eggs amidst the flowers in the garden, for my 21 and 23-year old sons to find, just like we used to do when they were little kids and we would visit my parents in Belgium for Easter. That was the tradition there, the story was that the eggs were dropped by the church bells "flying over in the sky, on their way back from Rome to their church tower". My parents have died by now, but I'm grateful my sons are here with me, just about to cook me a meal (as they promised me on Mother's Day). Cherish the day. Billy Bob did seem out of it, didn't he? But I wonder whether it was because he was high or being deliberately obtuse. I can kind of understand his wanting to be addressed in this context on his merits as a musician and not as an actor/screenwriter, etc. In a way, it's like Joni bucking when she's referred to as the greatest female songwriter or as a folk singer. But I don't think Joni has ever been that rude in an interview. The other band members looked both po'ed and embarrassed, imo. I was told by a couple of museum employees last Sunday when I finally went to see the work with my son that Ry actually showed up at the San Antonio Museum of Art at the opening night of the exhibit along with a public conversation with the artist who painted his El Chavez Ravine Good Humor Ice Cream Truck, Vincent Valdez. I was going to go that night but having too many situations to handle that evening, having just found out by my mother about the exhibit earlier that afternoon, I could not escape and was so upset and bummed out. I became so happy when I found out Ry was here even though had I wasn't there. There's something very special about Ry Cooder and I love his music and message very much and the truck is beautiful and it's so cool, man! I feel such pride with the ice cream truck that I'm gonna go see it again and again with other people. BTW, at the museum I was given a pretty picture postcard of Ry Cooder all decked out in a tailored cowboy shirt sitting down all cool-like against his truck and he looks very handsome. My mom said when I showed her, "He looks like a Pachuco or a Mexican-American Vato from the 40's!," and I just got happy. Now I have his postcard up on a pretty little collage I made with other pretty works of art of Frida Kahlo, Che Guevara, Emiliano Zapata and a beautiful Labrador Dog with three Cats and it fits so well on the wall and I love it!!! Well, have a wonderful Easter evening. I can finally relax for a while now and meditate on life, love, suffering, and the Resurrection.
