You really should read the book in its entirety. It is something of a tapestry :-) with the 3 lives cross-referenced and interwoven. And even though I've never been a big Carole or Carly fan, I found those parts interesting as well. As far as the Joni part, I though the author had a fair amount of courage in tackling Joni's conflicting stories/reactions/portrayal of her giving up Kilauren. And I think that conveyed the complexity of such a situation - - that it's often not a simple decision when dealing with issues like life, death, and birth. I'm glad you're enjoying the book, though. lots of love, Anne ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 2009 10:25:56 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Re: kay's party njc David, Thanks for the review and for supporting Heliotrope, Kay's CD release - like you, I've been a fan of "Eyes So Bright" since I heard it at Jonifest and on her EP several years ago, and I love this new version with the vibes and extra percussion. And Catherine, Kay did put "Pink Moon" on it. It's mostly Kay's originals though - long time festers will recognize a couple of tunes, and will love them all. Joni's Woodstock was included in the book btw, which, is rather humbling to included amongst the likes of "The Second Coming", (yes another Joni connection) etc... As I recall the poem was entitled "Daddy", I don't remember Camille's take on the poem, other than the words Sylvia Plath used were raw, and kind of unnerving. The poem did not reflect a picture of a "validating" father to put it nicely. I really enjoyed the movie which depicted Sylvia's life. Gwyneth Paltrow - who to me resembles Joni somewhat and reminds me of her (in her non-conformist free-spirited manner anyways) and think she did an excellent job portraying the troubled poet. It seems ironic - perhaps that is the wrong word - that Sylvia went to all that trouble to seal the door shut to save her two children from her own fate - only to have one of the children subsequently take his own life. - -- - -Mark in Florida On Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 3:14 PM, Mike Pritchard wrote: > I haven't read any full-length stuff but I love her story called Johnny > Panic and the Bible of Dreams. > mike in bcn > np Challengers - New Pornographers ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2009 #99 **************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
