It really sounds as if it is not fully accepted by the medical community. I followed some of the links and here are the questions i was asking myself, some of which were answered as i read: 1) Are the symptoms visible? Are these fibrous strucutres objectively present or subjectively perceived? 2) What was the effect of having such an uncertain condition in an episode of ER? How was it portrayed on the show? 3) Is this a fungal infection? The structures at times seem hypha-like. Some kind of insect or worm? Perhaps some other micro-organism or collection of micro-organisms contribute to the symptoms. 4) Do i have this? 5) Is it contagious? What's the evidence for this? 6) What exactly is the nature of the hypothesised link between the Morgellons -related particles and chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia etc? If fatigue, weakness and mental impariment are present do they correlate with any other known conditions or medications? What is the nature of this mental impairment and is it very closely tied to an experience of mental fatigue? Is weakness a manifestation of physical fatigue? (or vice versa?) If this is a primary mental impairment is the implication that these particles somehow have a physical or chemical impact on the brain? Yea, some light breakfast reading there. The scene of Terri Garr's character who invites Griffin Dunne's character up to her apartment. Although Griffin just wants to use her telephone, Terri is intent on setting a romantic scene and puts on Chelsea Morning (correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't seen it in a while) and is a little obsessed by the lyrics. That's fine by Griffin because he doesn't want to have sex with her anyway. Her obsession with Joni is harmless enough until he spots all the rat traps and her oddball behaviour with her beehive hairdo and a bagel shaped paper weight. I read a lot of books about music and this one is really distinguished by the high quality of the writing. Mercer breaks with strict chronology that makes run-of-the-mill music criticism so uninteresting. Her discussion about "confessional" songwriting is fully informed by the literary history of confession from Augustine to Robert Lowell. There is a wonderful Joni monologue on Augustine--one of many fascinating excerpts from Mercer's original interviews. For me, she really captures the core appeal of the records that she focuses on--_Blue_ through _Hejira_--, blending memoir and biography with criticism in useful ways. The book really took me back to my own personal connections with the music. While I like gossip as much as anyone else, this book has none of the prurient interest of Sheila Weller's book; rather, it captures the intricate essence of the music. It has a meditative quality that reminded me precisely about how I felt when I was coming of age with Joni's music. I didn't care about who her boyfriend was; I wanted to know, "How does she understand so well the way I feel?" This book goes a long way toward exploring that question, summed up in the quotation from Wallace Stevens's "The Man with the Blue Guitar" that serves as the book's epigraph: And they said to him, "But play you must, A tune beyond us, yet ourselves, A tune upon the blue guitar, Of things exactly as they are. The book so exceeded my expectations that I couldn't put it down till I finished it. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2009 17:39:28 +0000 From: Patti Parlette Subject: The Soggy Summer Lawns, then the US Blues, now SJC? The unlikely duo have remarkably fused the politically charged and poetic themes inherent in Mitchell's songs, with projections of her visual artwork, and orchestrated the movement of the Alberta Ballet dancers symbiotically so it all washes over your senses, seeping into your mind and spirit. Friday night, the newly expanded full-length version of the ballet hit the stage in Edmonton, after making its way through a tour of several prairie cities. Much to the delight of local audiences, the ballet arrived in full bloom, brilliantly polished but still fresh and exuberant. It was pure pleasure to see the company dancing so very well right now as a tightly knit group, a strong and mature ensemble made-up of self-confident and sexy individual artists full of passion and heart. The genius of Grand-Maitre and Mitchell's collaboration was no better made apparent than in act two's breathtaking Ethiopia. The song is deliberately not one of Mitchell's most easy to listen to tunes on its own and resolving it choreographically is a complex and challenging task, not unlike the very issues and problems the vast continent of Africa faces. But what we witnessed here was nothing less than the work of both artists pulled up to a whole other plain when seen together. Mitchell's music demanded that the choreographer work completely out of his comfort zone, and Grand-Maitre rolled up his sleeves and dived right in, colliding his distinctive contemporary ballet movement vocabulary inventively with traditional Afro-dance and jazz. The effect was astonishingly haunting and stunningly beautiful at the same time. ) The Edmonton Journal 2009 - ----------------------------------------------------------- Politicians and diapers both need to be changed often. My wife struggled with that quite a bit before she was finally diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I also have a good friend who has been living with frequently recurring migraines for over half of her life, with no answers as to the cause. It's maddening and disrespectful to be treated like some doctors treat their patients when they don't have a straightforward open-and-shut diagnosis to give. It certainly doesn't help the mental condition of having to live with the disease or condition. I imagine Joni went through quite a bit of that until she stumbled upon Morgellons. It's very sad. This, and a few other small issues were fixed with Adobe Audition 1.5, in the following order: - -Removed small gaps of silences between each track and smoothed so that the audience noise is continuous. - -Track 16 contains just audience noise, but at it's conclusion was a very harsh cut-off that lead into a quieter audience preparing for the first encore. I removed the gap and smoothed these two sections together and they now flow perfectly. - -The set was retracked as the transtions were previously in the middle of the audience noise. I moved them to be closer to the start of each song. Also, track 18 was split into two, as the introduction where Joni is bringing her "friends" on stage was rather long. - -DC Bias point adjusted; the waveform is now cenetered about 0dB - -From Track 13 onward, the recording was slightly right-leaning. I boosted just the left channel of this segment 2.5 dB, and it balances nicely now. - -Genlte fade-in on track 1 to remove the audience noise harsh start. - -End of show had a 2 second fadeout applied to the audience noise. Remaining audio issues (unfixed): - -The audience noise at the end of track 10 cuts out abruptly before returning in time for the beginning of track 11. This is from the analog source. - -Track 12 cuts out for a tape flip in the midle of the song. The audio returns a bit later, cutting into Joni's into to track 13 There is an outstandingly low hiss floor, and this tape must come from some fairly high grade analog recorders. There is some distortion during certain louder parts, and so the sound can't be ranked a solid A, but is an easy A- with the clarity being what it is elsewhere on the tape. Excellent sound indeed. The set does not have a pedigree lineage, but it is digitally clean and lossless, so has not deteriorted during its digital lifetime. It should be noted that no EQ, hiss reduction, or other audio quality editing was employed. Performance Notes: The performance is great, featuring a (mostly) solo Joni, taking "I Love You's" from the crowd, spinning stories, and charming everyone with her schoolgirl giggle and outgoing stage persona. The song selection is still packed with material from Blue, which sounds as raw and deep as it did when originally released. I am quite positive that the "friends" Joni has join her at the end are all of or 3/4 of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. She asks for David and Neil, which leads me to believe this is the case. They just sing the chorus together, so it's tough to pick specifically which voices are present. I've been unable to confirm this suspicion, so any feedback in support of or contrary to this opinion is greatly appreciated. Disc 1 72:53 01. This Flight Tonight 02. Electricity 03. I assume she did little touring during this time. I wonder if there are any high quality recordings from that era? Nice to hear her playing Banquet and the other piano songs.
