If you have not heard of him , many contemporary musicians cite him as a major influence, I know Laurent on this list was a big fan - in fact it was because of him we met in Glasgow. Ironic news given Laurent's last post . Martin was only 60 but had a history of illnesses and mishaps but didn't lose his sense of humour. After losing a leg, he refered to himself as a living leg -end. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2009 19:52:25 +1100 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: Re: For Monika Monika, I am also on the only-Joni digest so, I'm not sure what has happened. I followed him around quite a bit in the early 70s after hearing Stormbringer with his then wife Beverley. I simply loved 'Bless the Weather' and ' Solid Air' - but dropped off a bit with 'Inside Out' and 'Sundays Child'. I saw him support Sandy Denny at the Queen Elisabeth Hall (or was it the Festival Hall, not sure)and I remember being so amazed at what he was doing with his Echopet. I can't believe they're both gone. And I was only playing 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes' last week-end. I think most of us here in America knew nothing about Hugh Laurie before "House" and he pretty much nails his American accent, so to hear him speak on talk shows was a surprise. I like the show very much. The same with Rachel Griffths who played Brenda on "Six Feet Under" and is now on "Brothers and Sisters." I believe she is Australian. It's fun to be surprised by very good actors. Unfortunately word is that "Eli Stone" has been cancelled. I like that show very much too, and was disappointed to hear this. I think there may be a few unaired shows to come though. I hope I'm wrong about the cancellation. Best regards, Gary Z. Detroit Zooby wrote: >Mainly because he's English! I'm sending you my prayers and keeping you close to my heart. It's especially sad...a word that doesn't really describe the depth of the feelings, when a child dies. Nevertheless, when anyone of our loved ones die, we are forever changed. My father died in 1981. The grief immediately after wards was ungodly. Yes, with time it does subside, but there are far too many triggers that bring that acute grief to the surface. It's so very difficult to accept the life-cycles we travel through. I think, in middle age, we begin the sad, sad process of losing more of our family and sometimes our friends. I believe knowing that people who sincerely care about you helps soften the bereavement process. And, we have a family here that truly does. If you didn't read my last posting...or the one before that, I shared two quotes: "When Death strikes down the innocent and the young, for every fragile form from which he lets the panting spirit free, a hundred virtues rise, in shapes of mercy, charity and love, to walk the world and bless it." Charles Dickens And another- "In memory is life's reason." I think this is from the Talmud. I am sending Laura, Vince and Mark my heartfelt sympathy. I've been watching "House" since this show first began. Of course, I love Hugh Laurie...what a talent!!! I wish that more doctors had his diagnostic skill. I'm an avid fan of "The United States of Tara". Magnificently acted. I've been a psychotherapist for over 35 years and have only worked with multiple personalities twice. What an experience!!! I doubt that I had/have the skills to offer help in integrating all the alters. But did I ever learn a lot. I loved "Juno" and find that after I watch it (twice now) I can't get that tune out of my head for so long. Ellen Page did a wonderful job in portraying this character. When I watch "Dexter"...and I'm sort of addicted to it... I often feel like I need a Valium after wards. Nevertheless, as I said, I'm addicted. Does anyone remember the British series "Upstairs, Downstairs"? I loved that one!!! I'm a movie addict. There's a movie that's playing on HBO titles "The Next". A marvelous film. I love the independent films shown on the Sundance Channel. Of all movies, I seem to enjoy the independent films the most. "The Secret Life Of Bees" comes out next Tuesday on DVD. I read the book by Sue Monk Kidd and really enjoyed it. She also wrote "The Mermaid Chair". Hope this book is also scripted into a film.
