So happy to hear another shout out to Maddy Prior/Steeleye Span. I also agree with you on her Christmas cds. I play them more than any other holiday themed cds. I can't believe I left Rickie and kd off of my list! As for Rickie, Company is the song that hits me the hardest. I wept like a baby when she sang this in concert (this is the same concert where she pulled me out of the audience to dance with her - a very special night all around!). And when she sings Coolsville live, she channels something that's indescribable. kd definitely has a voice for the ages. Shadowland is brilliant throughout, as is hymns of the 49th parallel, with Hallelujah a standout. I also agree that Joni's orchestrated take on BSN is brilliant and takes on a much deeper feeling coming from a more mature point of view. Very cathartic. When I saw her live (for the first time ever) in Toronto on the "Ugly man" tour (OK, "Evening of my best day" tour) a few years ago, "Coolsville" really stood out and I agree with you on the channelling. Likewise, last year, hearing her do the stuff from "Sermon..." was incredible. I really felt I was in the presence of great spirits. Lucky you, that you got to dance with her. One of her best songs in terms of writing and if you've ever tried to sing it, you know that it has some fairly high notes and some pretty low ones.
