Kate cites Woodstock and while it was an awesome experience the music was pretty much lost in the mix of the sheer enormity of the social event. The Grateful Dead were really magic at Yale Bowl in (I think) 73. Marley was electric at Harvard Square Theater. He probably always was. In the 21st C. David Byrne a couple of weeks ago in SF w/everyone dressed up in white - incredible. But the BEST show I have seen in twenty years was the WAYNE SHORTER QUARTET w/IMANI WINDS at the SF Jazz Festival this past April. UNBELIEVEABLE! The entire ensemble was on fire from the first note. They all blew their brains out, especially Mr. Shorter and drummer, Brian Blade. If you get a chance to see these folks DO NOT pass it up. All the mind-blowing progressive jazz you could stand. Thank you, Richard, for your hard work. Today a couple of coworkers and I were talking about the fact that we haven't yet cast our absentee ballots, and the reason is the same for all of us: we're trying to find the time to sit down and read about the state and local issues. We all have the material (thoughtfully provided by our county), it's just a matter of finding or making time to read. So we came up with a plan, and I sent an email to the entire staff, inviting everyone to join us on the patio (we have a fabulous balcony just outside the door, with gorgeous views of Mount St. Helenaand Sonoma Mountain) on Friday during lunch for pizza and reading about the issues.
