I found a web page through CNN which checks the validity of the claims and publishes it's findings on a "Fact Check" web page. The page is located here: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/category/fact-check/ I hope some of you find this as useful as I did as you navigate your way through propaganda and rhetorical bullshit during the upcoming wave of political ads. The voice, well you'll see in Barcelona, reminiscent of Betty Boop. Either you love it or you don't. My daughter Lea, whom you know, fell in love with Anais' music and got her cd. As she got it authographed i asked Anais whether she had indeed listened to a lot of Joni. She replied that she used to pretend that Joni was her aunt. Hope you enjoy the gig soon. Hey Chuck and all, I don't have the faintest idea who Freddy and Juan might be, but I do know where the "Tarbaby" reference to Jackson Browne comes from. In the '94 video/DVD "Jackson Browne: Coming Home," Crosby and Nash are interviewed, and I believe it's Graham who jokingly says that they call Jackson "Tarbaby" because it seems whenever they see him, he has a new cause he wants them to help support, and he sticks with them until they agree. (Paraphrased from memory). Not quite sure where your "I don't *care* [in place of *know*] about anyone but me" comes from . . . ? I am a physician, a superlative one in fact, if you have any doubt of those credentials, you can find out what my book sells for used on Amazon.com. If you can name any other author's used paper back that sells for over $260, then I stand corrected. Go see for yourself: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0966499115/ref=dp_olp_2?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&condition=all I'm not here to brag, I'm only relating to any interested party who might have the ability to communicate with Joni Mitchell my willingness to apply my intellect to her medical problems. I feel a debt to her because I attribute my retention of sanity when I was in Vietnam to her music. Specifically, I cannot forget the reassurance that she gave me with her words and thoughts projected during that era. In the song "Carrie" she asks: "let's have a round for these freaks and these soldiers, a round for these friends of mine." Well, in a time period when being a soldier caused me to be kicked out of bars for being in the military and spat upon when in uniform, and discrimininated against because I was part of an unpopular war, she had the all--incompassing compassion to acknowledge those "soldiers" who everyone else was hating because it was popular and trendy to do so. I understood that I wasn't out killing people, I just was caught up in an unpopular conflict. She was one of the few people who would still raise a glass and toast with soldiers. That was a beautiful gift that I feel the desire to repay if she needs it. I know a number of methods not commonly practiced in mainstream medicine which could markedly benefit her with her pulmonary problems; but I haven't the slightest idea how to inform her of my availability. My credentials are impressive enough to convince anyone that I am sincere, if you go to my website: www.backpainoconnor.com you will see them. I would ask that anyone who has the access to her, give her my name and email and I will gladly pass on to her all my skills to make her healthier if she needs that level of medical intellect applied to her condition. I don't need to meet her or impose myself upon her, but I would like to compensate her for what I feel is a major benefit she bestowed upon my consciousness through out my life. I still find myself turning to her wisdom when I need to deal with life. Thank you in advance, William T. Probably my conscious/unconscious response to last night's debate. Sarah Palin makes me feel really sick, angry and frightened. Sick because she's the queen representative of all of the women in my life, over the past 4 decades, who conjured up my "Uch, I feel sick" response to their narcissism that was the predominant aspect of their personalities. I realized that I couldn't really concentrate on the content of what they were saying because every word was couched with narcissistic undertones...and I was similarly distracted with last night's 'performance' by Sarah Palin. She has a serious problem with 'entitlement'..."can I call you Joe?"...totally out-of-line and the beginning of what was to follow...me, me, me, me!!....under the translucent 'bow-down, he's the King, McCain'. This woman is dangerous. She will appeal to a fairly large volume of people, many of whom I would think are women, who have and will relate to her continual soccer-mom, folksy, 'I'll win you over'comments. Her answers and retorts were rehearsed. She doesn't come across like a human being who is really, deeply concerned about the quality of our lives in the USA and the lives of each person around the world. I didn't feel any sincerity when she tried to describe how she will work to change so many problems that we face now and those that will undoubtedly emerge. I don't underestimate this woman. She is fueled by her inflated sense of self and by what she considers to be her multiple accomplishments, (vs. attempts). But, when I've observed her as her children come on stage after some of her appearances, she hardly seems to recognize them much less acknowledge them. Then, she always takes her "special needs" baby to makes sure to show people how much she 'loves' and 'cares' for her child. What she is doing is exploiting this innocent soul. She no dummy and she's certainly feisty, in a cheer-leader sort of way, but her constant blinking made me think she was concentrating on some sort of trouble with her false eye-lashes rather than what she was saying and how she really felt about major issues. Oh does she ever have credit card eyes!!!!! If I find myself swaying away from content by the distraction of appearance, gestures and voice tones, I'm certain that I'm having a deeply troubled response to an individual. I'm not going to write about the mistakes she made, or the content in her responses to this debate's extremely important questions. Certainly, there will be an all encompassing analysis of this...I'm responding to how I felt/feel about Sarah Palin, the person....a very dangerous woman not to be underestimated in her ability to sway public opinion that may conclude with 'gee, I can really relate to that mom...I really love the way she looks and sounds as though she really knows how to run this country'. I think that Ms. Sarah gives a powerful subliminal message to people as 'I'm the one to watch as I become VP, and then, after I dazzle you with just how terrific I am, I'm sure you'll vote for me as I run for President in 2012'. UCH!!!! Switching gears; I want to welcome James and Jimmy and other new comers to our community. I know you're heartily welcomed. I'm so very saddened to learn that Jim Johanson has died. I'm sure Wally and Jim felt nourished and fulfilled before, during and after spending the week-end with Joni. Just imagine...Joni invited Wally and Jim for the entire week-end!! Catherine, thank you, thank you for the link to the article describing that week-end...it was beautifully written and calmed my soul and nerves. And so this week ends. Here's to a safe, enjoyable weekend!!! Biden attacked McCain and not Palin, avoided long-winded meandering answers and showed a personable human side. And whenever Palin tried to throw a zinger at him he was ready to stick a pin in it. How many times did she call John McCain a maverick? Close to 100? She didn't come across as sincere to me either. I loved it when Senator Biden said "That would be a real bridge to nowhere." Jim Johanson, who along with Wally Breese was instrumental in creating the website, passed away on Tuesday morning after a long battle with cancer. Wally conceptualized the site but it was Jim's technical expertise that brought it to life. The two worked together from the beginning, and Jim continued the maintenance of the site after Wally's death in 2000 until just a few years ago. Our thoughts are with Jim's friends and family. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Oct 2008 06:37:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Flaherty Subject: Re: Jim Johanson I was a regular visitor to Wally's cite long before I decided to join this group. I have been a regular to the site (jonimitchell.com) long, long, before I ever joined the JMDL as a subscriber or came for conversation for that matter. I was impressed with Wally's "strip art" (is that what you call it?) and with the appearance of quality that the site projected - something that I could see Joni herself openly approving of with her own artistic high standards. I remember having read the article at the time (referenced in this thread) replete with photos in which Wally, Jim, and Demetrius (sp) visited Joni at her home in Los Angeles, and I felt from reading that piece that perhaps this was the one single most exhilarating experience that Wally had in his entire life. I did not realize that it was Jim that was the technowonder behind the site all of this time - I'm always learning it seems. I do remember him stating that he would be primarily in charge of the site after Wally's passing. I can still recount his description of taking a boat out in the Pacific, carrying Wally's ashes and spreading them out at sea. Joni had sent a bouquet of flowers and they were taken along and tossed to sea as well. *Sigh* There have been so many losses of recent of people and/or their companions, their loving partners or their beloved pets it seems. Maybe this is simply a reflection of so many seasons that have now gone round and round as time moves forward inexorably. Mirando al cielo buscando a un amigo pasado que se marcho sin aviso se lo llevo el destino. Que cortas eran las horas cuando el estaba a mi lado y ahora se hacen eternas su corazsn se ha dormido. Looking at the sky searching For a friend that has passed Who left without warning And was carried to his destiny. How short were the hours That he was by my side And now they are made eternal His heart has fallen asleep. (Doesn't translate so well like most songs). A beautiful song, Syeme, by Spanish born singer Monica Naranjo that speaks of loss of a good friend and/or loved one, the emotions which can be felt no matter what the language. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRzZnSz2U8A - -- - -Mark in Florida On Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 7:07 PM, wrote: > I continue to have limited email access, but I am so so deeply saddened to > hear this news. > > Rosie in Lake Como, NJ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Oct 2008 18:06:13 +0000 From: c Karma Subject: re: Jim Johanson Dear friends, I am very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. There was a period while JJ was running JoniMitchell.com where the news from Joni's management company was sparse and sometimes unreliable (my, how things change). During that time around the TNT Tribute, BSN tour and the "Voices" exhibit, and by sheer dumb luck I was fortunate to be able to attend many of the New York events (Rosie, Letterman, TNT) for which I sent some "insider" reports to Jim for the site. He was appreciative for the support and asked me to cover the second Madison Square Garden BSN show. The review can be found at this link (thank you, Les), along with my photos which Jim graciously cleaned up via his STRONG graphic skills. http://jmdl.com/events/event.cfm?id=9 Also in appreciation, when we met in Saskatoon later that year for the "Voices" exhibit he invited me to accompany him to the opening reception where we had the opportunity to speak with Joni. Jim had accompanied Wally Breese to Joni's home and was well known to Joni. The report of Wally's visit that appeared on JM.com was actually written in part by JJ due to Wally's condition. He was greeted warmly by Joni and discussed a bit of bad news, as he relayed the then recent passing of Henry Lewy's wife. Joni made a note to herself to contact Henry with condolences. She thanked JJ for letting her know, and the mood brightened. A rather large group had purchased the exhibit books, and Joni was graciously signing them. She was inscribing his, "Thanks for the web continuum" but could not remember how to spell "continuum". I chimed in, "two U's, like vacuum." "Oh, good rhyming!", she agreed. Someone (David Mingus?) tried to remind her of Jaco Pastorius' song, "Continuum" but Joni seemed not to recall it. I remember JJ speaking at length later with Myrtle after she and Bill emerged from the private lounge. It seemed that he and Myrtle had a warmer, closer relationship than I expected, but that was just probably JJ. Bill and I were discussing the art, and parenting strategies for creative children ("Just keep buying those pencils"). It was one of the most beautiful events I have ever attended, and my memories of it will last so long as I breathe. Thank you Jim. For those who never met Jim, I can describe him as a gentle, sweet, creative, tall man whose beacon of humanity illuminated everyone he met. I know he struggled with illness for a long time and took courageous steps in his fight. May he shine forever.
