Okay! "What I give you since you asked...." is little compilations from my local paper (The Willimantic Chronicle, that does not have an on-line version (merde!) so, in a labor of love, I will type a few things. Thank you, Mom, for insisting I take "Personal Typing" in high school. It serves me well!) (Mama taught me the deeper meaning. Oh, how I miss her! She would be 80 on Friday.) 1. Today, the WC reported this: "Paul Newman's body has been cremated and a private funeral has been held, according to the CT Post. The newspaper quoted Newman's longtime friend and business partner, A.E. Hotchner. "It's all over," Hotchner told the newspaper.... Hotchner said he will miss his friend and "the great fun we had, the mischief. Everything we did was a lark." (I'm a little bit corny, comme d'habitude....."If I could put time in a bottle".....Paul put his salad dressing in wine bottles, the beginning of Newman's Own....and all the good that came from that!) 2. Monday, the WC had some pictures on the front page: one was of flowers and notes (on lilac sprays?) left on the stone wall at the entrance to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford. Bright as a neon light, I am remembering my little college hippie commune in ASHFORD, just a mile or so from the yet-to-be founded camp. And my first-born son was conceived in Ashford. I'm thinking I need to make a pilgrimage to Ashford as soon as time and good fortune allows. Lay down some flowers, and send up some prayers. Ashford is now holy ground for me. 3. Also from the WC: "Talking to TV reporters outside the family home in Westport, Conn, daughter Lissy Newman encourages people who wanted to pay tribute to simply show kindness to a friend, donate money to charity or vote in the elections." "Just look out for each other. That's really what he was all about," Lissy Newman said. "He was awesome to the end, and he is an awesome guy and his spirit with be with us forever and ever and ever." 4. In another publication (LOL...I read 'em all, just like Sarah Palin...whatever is put in front of me!) I saw this picture (that will break your heart): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1042687/I-want-die-home-Paul-Newman-tells-family-hes-given-weeks-live.html 5. From http://www.newmansown.com/ : "Shameless Exploitation in Pursuit of the Common Good," was Paul's vision for Newman's Own and it is a philosophy we are proud to continue. What a great sig file! 6. You all know about his Playboy interview, right? When asked about why he doesn't lie and cheat? "When you've got steak at home, why go out for hamburger?" 7. I saw another picture (sorry, now I'm fading in a suburban room and too tired to google anymore) of friends at his garden gate...the gate me and my brazen h.s. friends drove through back in the 70's.... Okay, babies. That's all for now. I'll prolly wake up in the middle of the night and have more thoughts to share. (Dreams to share....) Love, Patti P. in CT P.S. I thought of the other thing that was so beautiful. Hold on. Let me go find it.... Yeah. Here is it is. One week last summer: " Just one week ago, too, according to the official obituary, Newman sat with his daughter in the arbor of the garden at his Westport home, breathed in all the late summer beauty and said very quietly, "It's been a privilege to be here." The privilege is all ours, though." http://www.westport-news.com/ci_10607837 P.S. Thanks so much for the video tribute, Mags. I put it on my Facebook page. Vive toujours l'esprit de Paul Newman!
