We had the tribute a few weeks ago & as far as I know it wasn't recorded. I can't remember if I gave a report about it here but basically it was one of our best ever. (I am so in love with that song. Jeff played the harp & my other music partner Cinder played a mini broom on a washboard). I'd be happy to play it for you in person at the CA Jonifest! Kate >Is this when your Neil Tribute is, Kate? You were learning the song. Can we hear you sing it somewhere? I just listened to a couple of Neil you-tubes and it's so beautiful. Patti P.< ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2008 23:22:35 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: speaking of sharon & harvest moons some jc Last month I learned 3 new songs for gigs. Harvest Moon for the Neil Young Tribute. Heavenly Day (just the guitar part requested by a friend for his son's wedding- the bride's friend was asked to sing it- she is a professional singer (musical plays). I said yes before I knew what the song was & was elated to learn they wanted this song by my favorite recently current artist, Patty Griffn, for the bride's walk down the aisle. And the bass part of Pacabel's Canon (to accompany the violin & cello) for the same wedding ceremony. I'd just seen that Pacabel rant on youtube so it was pretty funny to learn that part- 8 notes 53 times! For the wedding, it really was a heavenly day & the location was outside on one of the most beautiful ranches I've ever experienced which says a lot because they are everywhere here. The celebration went on into the night & I realized I was having my very own Harvest Moon experience (just one month early) which was pretty cool as I was playing that song the next week. But there is more. The singer, who I had never met- she'd flown in for the wedding from Toronto) came over the night before the wedding so we could run through the song. She was a sweetheart of a person with a beautiful voice & we sang & talked about lots of musical things. Turns out she & the bride grew up in Sask & her (my singer's) mom was in an Irish band at the same time Joni was starting out & they played the same gigs if not the same stage occasionally. And even more. After playing that song for the wedding, two weeks later PG came to town for a concert which of course I attended. But the bummer was she didn't play heavenly day even thought the audience begged her to. What a heavenly harvesty august. Kate (watching the hurricane news since I have family who evacuated Galveston yesterday & are safely now in Florida) ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2008 #210 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
