I lived in Santa Fe, which is not too far from Los Alamos. So, that pretty much makes me a nuclear physicist, right? Maybe I'll put a volume of Baudelaire under my pillow tonight and learn a little French. Is it November yet? My head is starting to hurt. Seriously, the whole experience thing is a red herring. And, I wouldn't go there if I were the Obama campaign. I don't think there is any job, in DC or out of it, that can entirely prepare one for the job of President. Lincoln is generally regarded by both Republicans and Democrats to be one of the best Presidents this country has ever had, and his resume was not much more than Obama's or Palin's. And conversely there are lifelong DC insiders who have ended up being disasters in the White House. James Buchanan had about 20 years experience in Pennsylvania politics, another 20 in DC, with some diplomatic work thrown in there. And his administration was a trainwreck which helped plunge the country into the bloodiest war we've ever fought. There does not seem to be that much correlation between DC "experience", or national, or international political experince, and the quality of one's presidency. Clearly, there must be other factors at work. Judgement, wisdom, temperment, leadership? Something else, maybe? I want to send Palin and 'them' a copy of Chief Seattle's Letter To The President"...I'm not convinced any of 'them'can read...comprehend...consider...ponder...experience empathy (if they've ever heard of the word)...Palin can easily be diagnosed as having a life-long case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder...as a matter of fact, she meets the criteria for most of the personality disorders according to the American psychiatric DSM. Pal-face is articulate, I guess, that's about all I can say positive about her, other than I liked her glasses. I think she's a horrendous mom...not the hockey mom she referenced to far too often. I can't believe she has five kids...can't imagine her in a horizontal position. And how she exploited her baby (how often did the camera focus on that young, beautiful spirit...no wonder he slept through his mother's entire speech!!). Palin is NOT experienced...she was Mayor of a small town...and she's been Governor for 20 months...and they say Obama is without sufficient experience??? The world watched Palin...she was totally shameful...and her hunting ability has instilled itself throughout her entire brain. Tough cookie??? She gets off on projecting her toughness...what does that say about her (lack of) character??? She's a robot from within a hollow brain. I don't think she's particularly bright...she's spent a great deal of her life creating a package that she carries with no grace whatsoever. Okay..she's articulate...she rehearsed that speech a million times...and I imagine she wrote more of it than we think...maybe her lack of proper sentence structure was doctored up a bit...who cares? One thing Palin is: DANGEROUS.."be afraid, VERY afraid". I know I am. Palin would have said anything she thought the audience would want to hear. And, now that she has a "special needs baby" she'll be an advocate to all the parents with the same experience!!! She'll build a thousand institutions throughout our country and praise the parents who have given their special needs children to live in an environment that will eventually lead to their death...a bit harsh, but there are people who give up the will to live. So Track's going to Iraq...and that's supposed to garnish what emotion? Is there a possibility that she made sure that her son will 'serve our country'? This piss poor protoplasm of a human being is one thing: DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!! She lacked emotion throughout her blabbering. She's a very inadequate copy-cat of those gifted people who really know how to deliver a speech...their words come from the heart. The very idea that she can kill an innocent, magnificent animal is something she takes pride in sharing with the entire world. Think she's a tough cookie??? I don't. Imagine a dialog between Palin and Joni!!!! And the Republican machine thinks that she'll appeal to women...possibly get the women's vote...oh my god!!! I'm thinking Palin/Stalin. I'm shivering in my boots because I do not underestimate the enemy. I don't find her to be pretty...she appears ugly with distorted features...boy oh boy did she ever take care not to smear her lipstick!!! Did you see how she kissed her children...her husband??? Palin is an actress...nothing more. I shudder to even consider that this "gal" (as she made reference to herself) could actually become our Vice President. Oh my god!!!! What did I think of her speech? Flech..a stronger UCH!!! Palin recently said that the war in Iraq is "God's task." She's even admitted she hasn't thought about the war muchjust last year she was quoted saying, "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq." Palin has actively sought the support of the fringe Alaska Independence Party. Six months ago, Palin told members of the groupwho advocate for a vote on secession from the union to "keep up the good work" and "wished the party luck on what she called its 'inspiring convention.'" Palin wants to teach creationism in public schools. She hasn't made clear whether she thinks evolution is a fact. Palin doesn't believe that humans contribute to global warming. In speaking about climate change, she said, "I'm not one though who would attribute it to being manmade." Palin has close ties to Big Oil. Her inauguration was even sponsored by BP. Palin opposes comprehensive sex-ed in public schools. She's said she will only support abstinence-only approaches. As mayor, Palin tried to ban books from the library. ~ _________________________________________________________________ See how Windows Mobile brings your life togetherat home, work, or on the go. http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/msnnkwxp1020093182mrt/direct/01/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Sep 2008 21:34:53 -0400 From: Marianne Rizzo Subject: Palin and team, njc thanks Mark ~ I always thought the earth was safe. . . Of course nobody understood at > that time. But we, 21 century dwellers knows what he talked about... (of > course we know that the sun rotates too) I dunno, Rian. Sounds kind of like he was describing the Sun taking a "rounded course" around the Earth, like the Moon does (after all, he's mentioning them together). Which is what most people of that time thought. Of course I may be misinterpreting, or maybe something is being lost in translation. Of course, the Sun actually does follow a "rounded course", just not around the Earth. The Sun revolves around the galaxy about once every 250 million years. Its possible that that's what he meant, but then why mention it in the same breath as the other big round thing in the sky, the Moon. Sorry, I'm being kind of an infidel here, aren't I? ;) Peace, David PS I love the Kecap Manis, BTW. I did end up getting both the ABC and the Bango. And you're right, they're subtly different from one another, so that I could understand people developing a taste for one over to the other, much like some people prefer Pepsi over Coke. I don't yet have a preference. But, I did also compare it to Thai sweet soy sauce (see-yew whan) and the difference was more marked. The Kecap Manis has a slight tanginess that is missing from the Thai sauce. But, its the same idea. I generally use the "dragonfly" brand of Thai soy sauces. There's no English on the bottles, just Chinese and Thai script, but there is a dragonfly on the lable, so that's what I call it. :) I did try your Simple Kecap Manis Omelette recipe and found it yummie. I decided next to spice it up a bit with some lightly browned garlic and chili pepper, and sprinkled with crushed peanuts and lime juice. Double yummie. :) PPS Holy Crap! I just found this: "A study done by Dr. Jon D. Miller of Northwestern University, an expert in the public understanding of science and technology[4], found that today one adult American in five thinks the Sun revolves around the Earth." ONE IN FIVE! Holy Dark Ages, Batman! I share the roads with these people. And many of them vote. Chilling. "Is our children learning?" Apparently, no. (hmmm... I wonder if Bush is a geocentrist. I agree that I may have had no rights as far as copying the book, even though it is not copyrighted. I never had any thought or intention of making copies of it, never. I've sold many books on Ebay and probably every one has had a copyright, so copyright laws aren't even an issue here. Once I own a book, I can sell it. Your book was made with permission and given away as a gift. You basically gave it away, so that, those copies were no longer yours. You may have rights to the contents as with any book, but the book itself was no longer yours. How from there 2 copies came to be in a second hand shop, I don't know, but obviously someone gave it away, died, or whatever. Ebay really has no restrictions on books as you can read on their policy as far as what can be sold. If someone was selling illegally made books I imagine that would be quite another thing. Your complaint may have caused me a hassle, but I can't imagine that anything would stick from it. With my good Ebay reputation, they would hardly have banned me, just don't believe there would be any grounds. True members of JMDL were upset about the listing, but that doesn't mean there was a thing wrong with me listing it. I think members should have bid on it if it was such an issue. Anyway, I realize I did choose to take it off, and it's done now. I just needed to say that I think the overall 'gangbusters' approach was hardly called for. I think I could have been approached in a different way. I may write to Ebay myself to see what they say. Dr Laura had offered to buy the book if I would take it off, but she didn't mention it after I did, so not sure what happened there. Anyway, I'll wait and see who I hear from. If you don't hear from anyone in the next few days, let me know and I will make an effort to contact a couple of people who seemed interested. That you removed this book from ebay is appreciated by a number of the contributors who were upset about its appearance there. If you had not removed it, I would, as I said before, have filed a formal complaint with ebay against you on their behalf. Sometimes I can see their point and sometimes I can't, and I certainly am not a lawyer, so I don't know with absolute certainty the legalities, however I did respect the opinion of one of the members who is a librarian and who is very knowledgeable about copyright law and who adamantly stated that no one had the right to sell the book in ebay. As the compiler, I felt an obligation to those in the JMDL who were upset about the book being sold in ebay, but I thought it would be at least polite to contact you personally before filing a formal complaint against you to see if you would be willing to remove the book voluntarily. I didn't have to do this - I could have just filed the complaint - and not having filed a formal complaint, we cannot know what the consequences to either of us might have been. Maybe ebay would have seen your point of view, but maybe they would have seen the point of view of the upset JMDL members and the librarian. If the latter, one possible consequence might have been that you could have lost your rights to sell in ebay. I think we should both feel grateful that the matter could be resolved without having to resort to a formal complaint.
