Dear Kate, I liked what you said: "I liked what Bob said awhile back about how he has gained more by sharing his views & opinions on this list rather than have had something taken away. BTW I remember going through a big fear emotion after I released my debut CD. Those songs were from deep deep inside & I had revealed the most vulnerable & private things in my songs. It was very nervous knowing that my colleagues & complete strangers would know more about me than I knew about them. So I do very much understand reservations about sharing. Truthfully, I can only think of one negative experience I experienced as a result of releasing a CD & that negative might have come forward anyway. There have been thousands upon thousands perhaps millions of amazing magical positive ones experiences as a result. Kate" I completely understand, and I do think it is another thing to remember in this discussion. It is a very good comparison. So, thanks for sharing...! I saved it as I think it is so appropriate to the very different world we find ourselves living in than that which existed (was known of) during the genesis of these different religions." >> OK, I concluded that you're talking about something being out-dated. That science we know today is in the contrary condition with religion(s). The funny thing is (for me), the more I gaze at the galaxy, the more I find God. I'm speaking here as a muslim, and here i'm using my perspective as a muslim. Gotta tell you my background before i squawk more : though my mum and dad are muslims, i just embraced islam a few years ago, after I read the Koran. I love reading books. I love National Geographic, specially when they talk about outer space. One day, i said to myself "maybe reading an ancient book won't be bad" So, I read Koran. Surprisingly, i found these : Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (Al-Anbiya (The Prophets) : 30) The heaven, We have built it with power. Verily. We are expanding it. (The Winnowing Winds : 48) I believe they are about the origin of the universe,,, plus, they talk about big bang. How could this big-bang thing revealed in the middle of the desert 14 centuries ago? Next. It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course. (The Prophets : 33) So, this man from the middle of the dessert (Muhammad), 14 centuries ago, talked about orbits of the sun and the moon. Of course nobody understood at that time. But we, 21 century dwellers knows what he talked about... (of course we know that the sun rotates too) Ah, there are too many. I can't mention them here. Maybe you can read the book by yourself, just for killing time maybe. Rian PS. I'm not pretty sure if JMDL is the perfect place to discuss this. I recently went to hear a lecture on sungazing (the practice of gazing at the sun directly within one hour of sunrise and/or sunset) by an Indian man, HMR. He spoke a lot about channeling the solar energy and I found the whole idea very intriguing. It is apparently an ancient practice and can do much for healing and tapping into the energy of the sun. You have to start with gazing for 10 seconds then you can add each day, increments of 10 more seconds, eventually reaching 45 minutes if carry the whole process out, 45 being the maximum possible. I'm up to 20 seconds so far but my girlfriend, April, is around 24 minutes and she is one of the most energetic people I have ever meet. > > PS. PLUS I have *executive* experience as treasurer and/or president of Columbia Amateur Hockey Association for over 15 years. I can balance a budget, and lead. I was also on the student council in high school, and was a class officer. I speak four languages: English, Freedom (once known as French), German, and Jonimitchellese. My pronounciation is respectable, and I would never say nuke-you-lar to embarrass you. I'm a uniter, not a divider, and I think peace trumps money, not the other way around. (Money money money money makes the trees come down.) I am a hard-working campaigner. I have volunteered in the community. And I would swear on a stack of Bibles (Korans or whatever) -- or how about a stack of all of Joni's albums? -- yeah, that's it! -- to uphold every Joni value. I used to watch "Northern Exposure", so I know what we are up against. I will not carry a gun, though. Just so you know. And just like Joni and our first President, I cannot tell a lie: I inhaled. On more than one occasion. And there's just one little blemish on on my beat police record you should know about. I was arrested once, when I was was seventeen. (But since I was seventeen, I've had no convictions over me.) Disorderly conduct at a campground. Summer of 1971. Kettletown State Park. The campsite was in my name because I was the oldest in the group. We had a little party -- half the high school found out that four of us girls had our own site. You know how THAT goes: Chickie had the carOr Ron had a carOr Lead Foot Melvin with his hot-wire headThey all went looking for a party...(Imagine how hard it was in those days for the word to spread....no internet, no cellphones! Just good old fashioned tethered telephones, like on Bye Bye Birdie! "Did you hear? Did you hear?") I guess we got a little boisterous and loud that night. But it wasn't entirely my fault, Sir! It really was out of my control that everyone ELSE was out of control. I was quiet, drinking sweet champagne (Cold Duck...LOL...remember that?) and thrilling to the Brando-like things that Golden Reggie was saying. Anyway, that's the extent of my criminal record. I think Ms. Treegreen would be a great EPA Director or Secretary of the Interior, if I many humbly suggest. And you know are lots more gifted people at your beck and call, ready to serve in your cabinet. I hope you will weigh our beauty and our imperfections, to see if we're worthy. Les we can!
