P. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, (D-OH) Forgive the njc (encore une fois!) but I do believe that this person deserves a respectful mention (some shine) today. Stephanie Tubbs Jones September 19, 1949 to August 20, 2008 Cindy for Congress extends our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and constituents of Ms. Tubbs Jones on her very untimely and tragic passing due to an aneurism. Ms. Tubbs Jones was the first African-American to be elected to Congress from Ohio and was a wonderful role model to young women and a progressive model to her colleagues. May Ms. Tubbs Jones rest in peace and may her family and friends be comforted by her life well lived and celebrate her many accomplishments and know that our hearts are with you all in your grief. In memory of Congresswoman Tubbs: "Power to the peaceful." ***** Written by CS, forwarded by PP, with affection and respect, a lot of passion P.S. to Laura: High Five, Suffragette Sister! We shall overcome someday. Oh, do I have some stories, but no time right now. I was wild in the old days, birth of E.R.A. days. (A quick funny story: I once tried to have a serious discussion with my middle brother about the E.R.A. I asked him what he thought of it, and he said: "I like Wisk better." He wasn't kidding, either, so I went on to school him a little. (Moldie Oldie TIC: "Take my advice, I'm only trying to school ya", Muller! LOL, and this smiling face wishes a bon voyage et bon fest a tous! Put on the days!) And, like Kate, I'm so sorry about your break-in. Only now do I recall reading about that in haste one day, and neglecting to come for conversation and comfort about it. Glad your consultation w/ Bose was good! My son Dennis is 12 and an avid guitar player. During the summer he continually got new songs from Tabs 911 or whatever that site is and we heard him all day playing away. That guitar and small amp was the best investment we ever made. He's very much into his dad's tastes, heavy metal, but a lot of Zeppelin and Clapton too. Of course I can't help playing devil's advocate, trying to throw in a few zingers like, 'you know, Robert Plant is a huge fan of Joni's.' I could see the disbelief on his face. And the requisite eye-rolling. Then I found the Musician article I have in my archives (read a drawer in a closet) in which Larry Klein catalogs the huge musicians like Plant who became quivering bowls of jelly when she played them something. I left that article open on his bed. Today I read him passages from "Girls Like Us," with John Guerin and Don Alias both saying how put off they were when they first heard they'd be playing with "another skinny-ass folksinger" (Alias) and how blown away they were by her actual musical talents. Dennis said he can't believe the people who are so into her music. Hmmm. Maybe another chink in his armor? We'll see. Have a great time, all you Festers! Anthony: "This is our opportunity to retrieve the errors of the past and mould a new democracy. If our rulers have the justice to give the black man suffrage should not woman walk in by his side?" Made me think... this is our opportunity to mould a new democracy. If our voters have the justice to elect a black man to the position of democratic candidate for president, should not a woman walk in by his side? And, I don't mean the first lady. I hope Obama has the vision of Fredick Douglass who is definitely one of my heroes. Have you read the NY Times? (Neil Young Times. You rock, Neil!) http://www.neilyoung.com/news/index.html That gave me goosebumps. Deja-vu indeed. "We have all been here before...." In the video, I think I spied a bus on a map going through Atlanta. Don't blink, or you'll miss it!And here you can see the trailer of the film: http://www.csny-dejavu.com/ More goosebumps! They're my thrill. They do something to me. I am so grateful that they are still with us and doing what they do, still withsuch passion and heart. It gets so lonely when you're walkin, and the streetsare full of strangers. Love & Peace, Patti P.
