It is one of my passions, and yesterday I slolum skied again for the first time since the early 80's. I found a great EP ski on ebay a while back and used it. We had a great time, made an evening of it. One thing you noted that I wholeheartedly agree with was the periodic "too much background music", and not enough voices. My favorite performances were the ones up on the balcony (ala Pot Bellies here around DC, where a singer and his guitar sit on a ledge high above the dining floor singing). I also liked "A Case of You" by the guy sitting at the piano singing by himself. The voices of Don Juan's daughters were of really fine quality too. Since my Mom has strolled into town for a visit, things on the home front are chaotic, but we'll get a review done. My wife did take notes and has the complete set list. Any that one singer you mentioned who's coming down with Parkinsons . . . what a lovey voice. The way they performed The Circle Game to close the show was an excellent end to the evening. humbly, Loren ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2008 10:28:05 -0700 (PDT) From: Alison E Subject: Re: sweet bird revisited NJC Hell...is that a GOAT???? I have a Macbook which has a "mini-DVI" output for connecting to other external monitors or a TV. They sell a thing called a mini-DVI to s-video adapter, and my nice new HDTV does have an s-video input. But I'm reading where some others are, instead of going that route, buying 2 adapters - one mini-DVI to regular size DVI and then also a DVI to HDMI cable and connecting via the TV's HDMI input instead of the s-video one. Can anyone tell me (before I waste $$ on the mini DVI to s-video) is the picture going to be much MUCH better through the HDMI input on the TV? I can't seem to find a concrete answer, but it seems that miniDVI>DVI>HDMI is the preferred method of connecting as far as image quality. But that confuses me because the Apple Store website seems to have a bunch of the mini-DVI to s-video connectors - as if THAT is the hot set-up. Anyone got a concrete answer for me? This would probably only apply to Apple users, as I *think* only Macs use the mini-DVI. thanks and sorry to clog the list with this, but honestly, I've poked around online some and was wondering if someone here had an answer for me. :) thx! Rian, so sorry to hear this is happening to you as it can be one of the most difficult things to deal with. My take is that this may be more than sexual harassment. Could be this guy alls into the obsessive, stalking category. If so, he most likely has done this with others. Having dealt with someone like this (for years), I wish I knew then what I know now. It is important to learn about the rules of disengagement. You say no once, not politely, not shaming & do not allow yourself to be pulled into any further communication ever again. This may be difficult in a work situation so you'll have to decide about whether the job is worth it or not. Any emotion or response to this person whatsoever (even disgust) keeps the one-sided obsessional relationship going. Just seeing you will trigger the obsession. If you have to physically be in his presence, practice pretending he is invisible. Do a google search for stalking, you will find much helpful information. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2008 19:00:42 -0400 From: "Bob Muller" Subject: Live Joni for August Here's another case of live Joni for y'all - this one's made the rounds but I'm willing to bet that lots of you haven't heard it/don't have it and that's a crying shame as it is one of the best Joni shows out there, in terms of audio quality + performance quality. https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q01FeFlkR0ZubHp2Wmc9PQ Reprise Music Show; Wells Fargo Theater *Autry Museum of Western Heritage* *Los Angeles, CA 01/26/95* ** *It was broadcast live so the quality is impeccable. Then the guy wearing coat and tie talked to this audience as if he knows what he was talking about. The questions were all good questions too. I've corrected the title, jeez.... Goat? GOAT?! Absolutely not - I don't like goats. That's our orphaned lamb, named "Puppy" (half Suffolk, half miscellaneous). I've loaded a few more photos: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~hell/places/waipipi/sofa.html 1. Half an hour old, and probably half an hour from death... 2. One day old, and adopted by our dog, hence the name 3. On the sofa 4. Opening the fire (we keep it "locked" now) 5. "His" chair. He won't be going in the freezer 'cos we're attached now, but his brother will. Yum. ;o) And yes, he is in nappies (diapers) because he pees everywhere. At some point, he will be relocated to the great outdoors, but our weather is CRAP (freezing rain, hail, howling wind) and it's just too mean right now. My partner took him in the shower last night to give him a wash, and he loved it - I got the (damp) task of drying and brushing him. The dog is totally over motherhood, especially as he's decided she's quite attractive. He thinks the same about our large, grey, fluffy cat. We knew sheep matured early, but three weeks is ridiculous! There's something very, very wrong about a lamb trying to mount a dog (or cat).
