The suit, filed on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, also names the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party as defendants. It seeks a permanent injunction against further use of Browne's music and at least $75,000 in damages. (11 months already on the list, i learned that JMDL can be a good source of advices) Here's the problem : There's a man in my office. He is 30. He is nice, (actually too nice to me). He helped me a lot during my very first days in the office. He taught me this and that, what to do, and what to avoid. Then a few weeks ago (almost a month), he told me that he loves and he wants me. That surprised me! I told him, in my best manner, that i cannot accept his affection because i am not gay. I thought that was the end of it. But it wasn't. Ever since, he sends me tons of gaudy text messages everyday and asks me to go with him (to movies etc) every weekends. Three days ago, I asked him (still in good manner) to stop sending me unimportant text messages (of course i didn't tell him that his messages are gaudy b and makes me sick). The response? He acted in the ugliest drama-queen-mode i have ever seen in my life. He stopped sending me messages..... for just 2 days. Today, I received again. For me, enough is enough. I told him in my bad bad bad manner that his messages make me sick, and i am tired of them. Response? (Drama queen mode) He told me that he can't get me out of his head. Damn! What should I do? Fort MacLeod is, of course, the birthplace of Joni, although I don't think her family stayed there very long. I was curious as to how a town that I imagined must be very small would have a theatre and that someone like Jennifer Warnes would be appearing there not one, but two nights, recognizing that Jennifer Warnes apparently hasn't done a live show in quite a while. So I checked out the Empress's website and did a google search on Fort MacLeod. Fort MacLeod has a population of just over 3000 people. Why would it have a theatre with live shows? So it turns out that Fort MacLeod is a tourist attraction as well as a gateway to many other tourist sites (and sights) in southwest Alberta. It sounds like the population at least triples during tourist season. Despite its small population, its annual Santa Claus parade (largest in Western Canada) draws 10,000 people. It has the most sunshine hours (colouring the sunshine hours) of any place in Canada. It is within view of, and only an hour's drive from, the Rockies (the beautiful Rockies.) As well, it has milder winters moderated by the Chinook winds It has been chosen to be the new home to the Alberta Police & Peace Officer Training Centre. So, the little town looks like it's booming, as is the case with many town in Alberta. As for Jennifer Warnes, she will be appearing at the Empress Theatre, Fort MacLeod AB Sept 25 and 26, and then in Edmonton on Sept 27; on Oct 2, she will be participating in a McCabe's anniversary show at UCLA. I remember seeing those signs warning you not to pick up hitchhikers when I was driving through Michigan. It really makes you check to make sure the doors are locked, doesn't it, and it's hard to refrain from checking over your shoulder and everywhere around to make sure there's no one lurking about! When I went to pick up my rental car for my trip to Montreal and Quebec (I don't own a car), I arrived at the rental place to see a horde of people outside and in the office and thought, "Omigod, we'll be here two hours!" It turned out that all of the other people were renting vans to take them and their bikes to some sort of bicycle rally/fundraiser (for AIDS, I think?) and that I ddin't need to wait for them. They were in groups of three or four for each van so, despite the apparent crowd, there were only a few actually waiting - and they were being dealt with by another person. So I got to go to the counter right away and was out of there quickly. The longest it took me was trying to figure out where the thing was to adjust the seat! In fact, I was pretty impressed with this car rental place (National Car Rental, Yonge Sreet, north of Bloor) and would definitely go with them again, because they were much more professional and hassle-free than any other place I've ever rented from. Travelling on the 401 between Toronto and anywhere is likewise hairy. There are times when you are entirely surrounded by transport trucks and that does not make for leisurely driving! Add to that the on-and-off rain, sometimes very heavy, that we encountered on the way home - an unlikely scenario in Nevada, I guess - and it's enough to make you cry, "Waaah! I don't wanna do this!" but still you plug on, because you haven't got a lot of choice. You can't pull over to the side of the road on those highways, so you just slow right down like everyone else, watch the tail lights ahead and hope the person ahead doesn't decide to pull off to the side, or you might end up in the ditch. If I had to do a road trip again, I would make sure I had plenty of time and that I wasn't driving straight from one point to another over 500 km away, but that I could stop and take my time and see some sights along the way. And I would either go by myself, because I do like driving on my own, or else would go with a fellow Joni fan - anything but a couple of late teens/early 20s siblings fighting with one another over anything at all! Better yet, I'd fly, or take the train! - --- On Sat, 8/16/08, Patti Parlette wrote: Yes, I recall seeing a highway sign that said something like "Do not pick up hitchhikers. xxxx Correctional facility in area" or something to that effect. I had another Joni moment I forgot to tell you about. Actually, it was two hours! Yes, the longest wait I've ever endured to pick up a rental car. It was nuts. I was itching to get out of that tourist town and hit the road, and even though I had a reservation, I had to wait, in that crowded waiting room. Everybody waiting. The kids had cokes and chocolate bars and were sitting all over the floor playing video games or texting or whatever. ... They *will* give peace a chance! Wishes bloom Yoko Ono speaks on impact of project By Silva Sevlian, Correspondent Article Launched: 08/15/2008 11:40:52 PM PDT PASADENA - Yoko Ono's "Wish Trees for Pasadena" in the One Colorado courtyard now has 21 trees overflowing with knotted tags and scribbled wishes. In a telephone interview Friday from New York City, Ono said her interactive installation art project - which began nearly three decades ago and has since been re-created in more than 80 cities - - has received an unusually high number of wishes. "Pasadena is very important - I feel like I'm there with them. But I can only come in spirit," Ono said. At tables set up between the trees, boxes hold dozens of blank wish tags and pencils. "This allows people to articulate their wishes," she said. "When people wish for peace, they visualize peace, and when written by hand, it is very powerful." Ono said she was inspired to create the Wish Trees project from the Japanese practice of tying written positive thoughts onto trees in temple courtyards. "It's the power of positive thinking that can lead to success, and I think that she's trying to lead the way," resident Mary Geyer said of the installation as she tied her wish to a tree Friday. Some participants compared it to the Western Wall. "It's like the wall in Jerusalem, where people put their prayers," said Luis Ferreira, who was visiting Pasadena from Portugal and added his wish to a tree Friday - to return soon to the United States. The wishes don't come just in English. Chinese characters and drawings are among them, while others are written on napkins and even gum wrappers. Ono said she admires the trees from afar. To her, the wish tags appear as white flowers blossoming on the trees. "It's nice to hear the papers in the wind - we get to see and hear people's wishes," said Jessamyn Pattison, who was eating lunch in the One Colorado courtyard Friday. She said that the project illustrates Pasadena's dedication to the arts - and Ono's dedication to peace. "When I put my wishes up there, I know I can let go of them and they will happen if they're supposed to," Pattison said. There are now more than 10,000 wishes hung on the trees, and they're being added at a pace of about 1,250 a day, breaking all forecasts and sending the organizers scrambling to provide more tags. Pasadena's wishes will be added to the 700,000 that have already been collected at other Wish Tree installations. Eventually, the wishes will be removed and shipped to the Imagine Peace Tower, her memorial tribute to John Lennon, Ono said. "I'm amazed at how it's developing and growing and I am very thankful," Ono said. The monument to Lennon is in Reykjavik, Iceland. It acts as a lighthouse, beaming a light up into the sky for two months out of the year - between Lennon's birthday, Oct. 9 (1940) and the day of his assassination, Dec. 9 (1980). The Wish Tree project has no expiration date, Ono said. "We'll keep going until we have world peace," she said. Her hope is that the wish trees will bring the world closer to that goal. "I feel like the Imagine Peace Tower and its energy and light can turn even a negative wish to a positive," Ono said. She said she doesn't read the wishes because they are private thoughts. Pasadena residents and visitors, on the other hand, have made a pastime out of it. "It impacts the surrounding area to see all of the wishes on the tree," said Paula Fernandez, as she filled out her wish. ***** The article and a slide show are here: http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/ci_10220806 If any little old ladies (or gentlemen) of the JMDL canyon are going to Pasadena, please call me at the station so I can ask you add to a wish to the tree. Rian, this behavior in the US is unquestionably known as unwanted sexual advances and offensive conduct and as such falls into the category of sexual harassment in the workplace. Here you would report to the matter to the Personnel office immediately, and it is a very serious matter at that point for the employer because of US laws that govern sexual harrassment in the workplace. A quick investigation collaborating the situation would result in the co-worker being warned if not outright dismissed over such behavior. I don't know what the situation is in Indonesia regarding sexual harassment, but if such a system is not available to you, I think I would tell your other coworkers about the unwanted behavior which is causing you such distress and the coworker would feel some degree of shame (hopefully) as his aberrant behavior becomes known around the office and would cease.
