Thanks for another fine volume. I particularly liked Louciana Souza's, Down To You. I also really liked the two tracks from the British group, Woodstock. They do try to be faithful to Joni's original sound but there's nothing wrong with that. Sarah Morrau is wonderful. It's just a shame about all the finger sliding on the guitar strings. Very distracting. Like you, that first JT album was the soundtrack of my summer of 1969 in Cape Cod just before heading to Woodstock. Then I went to California & it was dij` vu but with Jackson Browne's first album. Same with Joni & Carole- STAS east coast, Tapestry west coast. katE :~} >To the best of my recollection this was in the spring of 1969....there were stiil free Sunday concerts on Cambridge common....no seating, just stand around. A wonderful band called Bead Game was probably playing, or George Leh, or Jimmy Montgomery, or Reeve Little. So these two skinny guys in work shirts go to the mic's between bands. James and Liv sing 'Carolina' and it was lovely. James says "This is the single off my album. Please buy it." That's the eponymous Apple record, which was basically my soundtrack of that summer (until Woodstook that is.) When we get older, our minds turn to cheese and we dodge the realities with flashes from a brighter time. Not by design, I just corral them in as they come and there were a mess of BSN's this time around. Hi Bob, This brought to my mind a funny story. A few months ago, I was riding with Marianne and her mother, and Marianne had a covers CD playing in the truck. Before we picked up Ma, we had been playing name that Joni tune the quickest for points which was a great game Marianne thought up. After driving a little while, Ma said, "they sure are playing that a lot," in reference to Both Sides Now or maybe it was The Circle Game. She thought it was coming on the radio. The funniest part was the way Marianne said, "It's a CD Ma!" Love, Laura PS. Thanks for posting the link for 102... got it! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jul 2008 12:53:15 -0700 (PDT) From: Brian Gross Subject: Re: an actress that could play a young Joni Hi Jimmy, I agree with you about Shanna. And her character of Laurie is just sassy enough to believe she'd be out sneaking smokes at 9 and dancing on the wrong side of the tracks like Joan did! I like the show too. The music, while certainly dated, takes me right back. That was the summer after my graduation from Lehigh. Ahh, the old days. I also like the show in the same time slot on NBC called "Fear Itself" A couple of those standalone shows have been scary as hell. Glad to hear you and Ed are doing well. David Crosby's first solo album was like a Who's Who for the late 60s CA music scene. Among the people mentioned in the notes are Joni. She appears courtesy of WB, yada, yada. And her picture is there amongst pictures of members of the Dead, the Airplane, Quicksilver, Santana and other SF players. But, I could never figure out where she was musically on the album. I only have the CD and the notes aren't that detailed. Well, I was listening to the song "Laughing" today and toward the end, one of the background singers hits some high notes, and for some reason, I must've just been listening to it the right way. I'm pretty sure its Joni. Don't know why I never noticed before. Can anyone confirm that? Maybe someone has the LP and maybe it has more detailed notes?
