Last night was the last night of "Festival of Fire" There was something going on at Queen's Park last night - some kind of Afro-Fest, I think, and we could hear the music and the drums. At 10:30 the music stopped and then the fireworks began at Ontario Place. Another gorgeous night. I can't believe the beautiful weather we've had for the last week. I feel as if mentioning it is going to curse it and it will turn hot, hazy and humid again, or else rainy and cool as it had been up until the end of June. I hope you get to see Joan Armatrading at the WFF. I've never seen her live but I love her newest album, "Into the blues." I'm going to see John Mayer tomorrow night at the Molson Amphitheatre. I'm not really that keen on going but Sarah had two tickets and the friend that promised to go with her bailed and she wants me to go. I knew/know a female DJ working in radio who used a short abbreviation of her first name (Kat instead of Katherine) and a totally different last name as her on air name. She still works at the station and is a very successful and known DJ. Once I asked her about her on air last name. To make a long story short, she was with a boyfriend for a few years who ended up stealing money from her. She decided at that point that she would get her little revenge by using his last name when she would start making money for herself... Maybe that too could be Joni's little way of showing Chuck?? Well, we would prefer make our own sauce. Ingredients : chili, red garlic, tomato, salt, and cabe rawit (quite similar to Thai chili). Then blend them in a traditional pot made from stone. But, if we don't have time (or depends on the food), we use bottled chili sauce. Dua Belibis (Two Belibis. Belibis = a kind of bird) and Jempol (thumb) is hotter than ABC, Selera (Taste), or Ligham's. Those 2 sauce are favorited by those who adores Sumatrans food (which is spicier and hotter) (Find any recipe of Padang Food) (Padang is a city in west Sumatra). ABC is a kind of chili sauce found on fast-food restaurant here. But ABC has lots of varieties. My favorite : Sambal Lampung, which I think the hottest of all ABC brand. Lingham's and Selera... I haven't tasted them. Conclusion : If you want something experimental, try 2 Belibis. But, if you want the safest (in terms of taste), try ABC. Recommendation : Go find Tempe. Its the tomatoes that are the problem there. Its nearly impossible to find a good tomato in stores around here. At least what I would call a good tomato (deep red flesh, sweet, flavorful). The only way to get a good one is to grow it yourself, and the growing season here for tomatoes is only a few months in summer. *sigh* So, I tend to make tomato-based dishes and sauces only during late summer. Otherwise, I usually resort to canned tomatoes, which aren't nearly as good as fresh. > Then blend them in a traditional pot made from stone.
